April Fools: Spring snow creates wintry scenes in France

Niall Yeah, I'm pretty over the cold this year. We're still in a drought here in WI and had an extremely cold winter, and it's lingering past its welcome. However, we get snow as late as June in WI (not often, but common enough). Usually when it's still snowing this late in the year, the wind has lost its bite. It hasn't yet.

scrutinizer Glaciers still take a while to form. And parts just north of here (Northern WI, Upper Peninsula Michigan) have only been open/accessible all winter for a mere few decades.

On Monday, here in NYC, temps dropped to the 30s for 3 days. My first thought was, now satans sons are fucking with the weather but I guess March just decided to come in like a lamb and out like a lion.

Buffalo_Ken Morning, I've just reviewed the Northern hemisphere weather at 500hpa and forecast it forward.

A split Polar vortex will indeed result in a plume of Cold air establishing over Northern Europe which will travel West then sink over the UK on Thursday.

More importantly though, is the huge amount of cold air in the Northern hemisphere for this time of year, its failure to retreat does not bode well for the long term and will result in extreme weather events at lower mid latitudes this year.

Anyone who has ever grown anything outdoors in N France, where I live, or England, where I lived, knows that pretty much the only thing you can plant uncovered before the "Saints de Glaces" (the frozen saints ) is broad beans, because they'll take a frost. This period is c. end of 2nd week of May. I'm 49 and can remember it snowing a lot twice in April. Last year we had frosts through start of May. This is nothing new or exceptional. It seems so because people don't spend enough time outside and don't grow their own food anymore. Legends like the Saints de Glaces exist for a reason. When you ignore them, as I did once since being in France, you learn the hard way.

ive analysed the weather for 50 years..yes you can get short cold spells in april but this is different this time,last year in the uk it was very cold well into May..the next couple of weeks across uk and europe will see more snow and freezing temperatures which will continue to shorten the growing season but it will get alot worse 2023-2025

Get prepared: The ice age is on our doorstep, because the Earth, in it's great celestial orbit, for about the last one thousand years, has been in the location where an ice age has never failed to occur. Now it is imminent. Look around the Globe. Many places have been experiencing very heavy rains and subsequent flooding, and, some places very cold unseasonable periods.
