that there is a 'correction' going on in our society?
From the decades old discovery of 'autism' where Moms were the whipping boy to the current 'learning disability' where Moms are encouraged to endlessly drill their child in rote repetition over facts not learned in the classroom to the exhaustion of both combatants, is there an end to all this?
Yes.
It consists of reclassing of autism and learning disability as a mental illness per the newest revision of the DSM, to the removal of 'learning disabled' students from the charter classroom where the public schools sidelined them, to the elimination of 'special ed' teachers like R Emanuel's closing out the jobs of 500 special ed for the Chicago school system, to the surprising revelation that there are no special services required and no diagnoses of 'special needs' are now being made.
As educational law per the federal gov states, the least possible intervention is supposed to happen. Well, that is your kitchen table with you, grandma, and if you are very lucky to be able to afford it, a college student to supplement with fresh enthusiasm. The school system has made the home the least possible intervention which leaves the student isolated from his peers and unable to interact with his/her age group in a setting that will be a substantial part of their youth memories. It is absolutely imperative that the child be socialized with his peers in the setting that is the framework for familiar comments and interactions. Nothing can substitute for this yet that is exactly what is happening. Shame on America.
