The Palestinian foreign minister said in a visit to Caracas that Venezuela has given unconditional solidarity to Palestine against the Israeli genocide.

Venezuela has for years provided "unconditional solidarity" to the Palestinian struggle against "the Israeli genocide," the Palestinian government said in a statement late on Monday after Venezuelan Foreign Minister Delcy Rodriguez said the Palestinian people were "an example of resistance for those of us who struggle against imperialism."

"Since the arrival of the Bolivarian Revolution in 1999, Venezuela has become a voice for historically marginalized peoples, reclaimed social struggles and raised the banners of justice, including for those in Palestine," Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Maliki said in a statement during a visit to the Venezuelan capital Caracas.

Maliki participated in an event by the Venezuelan government commemorating the 68th anniversary of Nakba Day, which refers to the day the state of Israel was established resulting in the destruction of hundreds of villages and towns and displacing at least 750,000 Palestinians.

different people around the world and identify with the struggle of the Palestinian people," Maliki added.

Rodríguez on her part said an international agreement must be reached to ensure that Palestinians receive justice.

Maliki added that in order to achieve peace, there must be an end to colonialism, to oppression and to occupation and support for liberty."

Under President Nicolas Maduro and his predecessor Chavez, Venezuela has strongly supported Palestinian statehood, and has been critical of Israel's occupation of the West Bank and siege of the Gaza Strip.

Venezuela was one of the first countries to donate humanitarian aid to Gaza in the wake of Israel's 2014 assault on the enclave, and has committed to settling Palestinian child refugees.
