Nicely done.
The Ukranian furiously upset the game board, providing humour and amusement for Americans, who live in a totally unrealistic world, led and bled by their own propaganda, most especially by their own leaders. Games theory is a great thing, while it remains just a game (and yes, I studied games theory as a final year Pure Mathematics course at university).
Unfortunately, these Great Games result in massive human catastrophes, while those that play them remain insulated and unaffected. Except for the losers, like Slobo, Muamar, Saddam, and yes, even Adolf and Josef. Naturally, being winners, we cannot apply the same criticism to our own glorious western leaders, who, of course, have all our best interests at heart. Of course they do! Don't they?
/sarcasm off.
I have difficulties accepting both democracy, and economics (the modern gods we are all taught to believe in). Here's my problem:
Western democracy is tied to the hip to western economics. To disbelieve or deny either is equivalent to heresy.
Western economics is dedicated to expansion, there's no other choice given debt-based fiscal theories. The chief reason that economics expand is due to an ever-increasing domestic population, which therefore means more consumers, to create and use more 'money' (that wonderful stuff that has become the reason for existence) which whizzes around at an ever-increasing rate. The rate that money flows equates to increased taxation, which in turn supports an increasing government budget. Which democratic governments need to support their latest blandishments to garner voters. This is why we have immigration, and therefore multi-culturism.
But population (i.e. economy) cannot keep infinitely increasing in a finite world. It's utterly unsustainable.
Personally, I suspect the Big Crash isn't all that far away, that the cycle of economic crash and boom can't live for too much longer, that the world's human population simply cannot keep getting bigger for too much longer. 2050 or so. When the world's population will be exceeding 20-odd billion, and deperately using up more resources than the groaning biosphere can supply.
Further, I suspect that our mighty leaders know all about this, and so we have the western democracies eagerly pushing for as much power / control as they can before the shit hits the fan.
I respect the Chinese, whose country has the only government on the planet that care about population control (which no multi-party democracy can support and remain popular, as happened in India).
Zardoz (by John Boorman, featuring a relatively youthful Sean Connery and Charlotte Rampling), is, in my opinion, a prescient movie well worth watching.
