Marion County authorities are charging a 16-year-old boy as an adult in the murder and attempted murder of his mom and dad after they were found stabbed in their Haleyville home.

Travis Montgomery is being charged with the murder of his mother, Renae Montgomery, and attempted murder of his father, Wade Montgomery, according to Sheriff Kevin Williams.

Sheriff Williams says the stabbing happened at a mobile home on Slaughter Pen Road around 11:30 p.m. Sunday.

A relative heard screams nearly six hours later, around 5 a.m. Monday, and found Wade Montgomery suffering from stab wounds near the entrance of the trailer. Renae Montgomery's body was discovered in a hallway of the mobile home.

Wade Montgomery had been stabbed in the chest and has a punctured lung, according to Sheriff Williams. At this time, Wade doesn't have any feeling in his arms or legs. Williams says Wade was unable to move and could only scream for help after the stabbings occurred.

Wade Montgomery was transported to UAB Hospital where he is in serious but stable condition as of Monday afternoon.

A relative of the family said Travis Montgomery was supposed to go to an anger management class on Monday but didn't want to go.

Sheriff Williams says Travis Montgomery was close with his father, but had some issues with his mother.

After the stabbings, Travis Montgomery allegedly took his father's pickup truck and drove away from the scene, Williams said. The Marion County Sheriff's Office found the teenage boy around 11 a.m. in Haleyville and took him into custody.

Travis Montgomery is being held in the Marion County Jail in Hamilton. His first court appearance will be held on Tuesday morning.
