"We have about 50% of the world's wealth but only 6.3% of its population. This disparity is particularly great as between ourselves and the peoples of Asia. In this situation, we cannot fail to be the object of envy and resentment. Our real task in the coming period is to devise a pattern of relationships which will permit us to maintain this position of disparity without positive detriment to our national security. To do so, we will have to dispense with all sentimentality and day-dreaming; and our attention will have to be concentrated everywhere on our immediate national objectives. We need not deceive ourselves that we can afford today the luxury of altruism and world-benefaction."

That Mexico is no longer a free and sovereign nation. That it is suicidal to hold elected public office in Mexico, or be an investigative reporter. That crime will always win because they have better guns.
And that we are probably next?
Are any of these messages, implied in these stories, really true?
As far as I know, things have gotten very bad in Mexico. They have gotten bad in Mexico because rogue elements in the CIA are funneling 'black' money into one or more of the cartels for the purpose of creating terror attacks and eliminating competition.
But the people of Mexico have not given up. From what I have heard, they are still fighting back and they still hope they can win. They are working on anti-drug education programs in their schools and taking other measures.
It would be really great if we would lean harder on our own media to break this story open and show how it links to Fast and Furious, money laundering, and other criminality being protected by government secrecy.
