Puppet Masters
The coup overthrew the government of the then Iranian Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddegh leading to the restoration of absolute monarchy under dictator Mohammad-Reza Pahlavi who was later toppled in the Islamic Revolution in 1979.
In a documentary aired on August 18 on the anniversary of the coup, BBC Persian channel admitted for the first time to the role of the BBC Persian radio as the propaganda arm of the British government in Iran.
After repeated denials of the BBC Persian radio's role in helping London oust Mosaddegh, the program entitled Cinematograph detailed how the radio network broadcast anti- Mosaddegh programs to undermine his government.
"The British government used the BBC Persian radio for advancing its propaganda against Mosaddegh and anti-Mosaddegh material were repeatedly aired on the radio channel to the extent that Iranian staff at the BBC Persian radio went on strike to protest the move," the Cinematograph narrator said.
Britain had lost its power as a world empire after the World War II and Mosaddegh's efforts to nationalize Iran's oil industry, which bear fruit on March 19, 1951, meant Britain lost one of the most important resources it formerly fully controlled under the guise of the British-owned Anglo-Iranian Oil Company due to subservience of the Pahlavi regime.
This comes as on the anniversary of the nationalization of Iran's oil industry on March 19, 2010, the BBC Persian channel aired another documentary that categorically dismissed the broadcaster's Persian radio in the 1953 coup claiming the radio channel even went against the policies of the British government.
The Cinematograph also quoted a classified document going back to July 21, 1951 in which a Foreign Office official thanked the British ambassador for his proposals that were followed to the word by the BBC Persian radio to strengthen its propaganda against Mosaddegh.
"The BBC had already made most of the points which you listed, but they were very glad to have an indication from you of what was likely to be most effective and will arrange their programme accordingly," the document shown in part on the program read.
"We should also avoid direct attacks on the 'ruling classes' since it seems probable that we may want to deal with a government drawn from those classes should Mosaddegh fall," it added.
The document further stressed that the Foreign Office "shall be grateful for [the ambassador's] comments on the propaganda line we have proposed".

My impression is that if "secret tactics" such as these are now being admitted to, new secret tactics have been put in place.
I have noticed several news casts (of the few I listen to) recently where the journalist seemed to actually grasp that something deeper was going on. So if they are making room for this awareness, I figure they have also invented a new level of obfuscation.
The less cynical view is that the grip of the controlling elites on their former instruments of control is actually slipping a bit. I wouldn't rule that out either, as unlikely as it seems.
It was when I was still a child that I first noticed that the PTB/Governments ALWAYS said "Well, yes, we lied - back then -ahem, we used to lie but we don't lie any more, trust us." And, then, again after the passage of additional time, they would admit other more recent - yet still old - events/lies and then, they - the oovernment/PTB - would say AGAIN, "Well, yes, we lied, then. but we don't lie any more." Sound familiar?
Such admissions usually occur for three reasons, which often co-exist in any such "admission."
1. To provide current credibility to the government/Groups/PTB ("PTB") WHICH BY THEIR VERY NATURE LIE!!! Such admissions - with their hoped-for boosting of false credibility - usually happen when they're getting scared about some obvious current lie being unveiled -[ the BBC's pre-reporting of the no-plane, perfect-collapse of the WTC-7 with the BBC's then-also-first-pronounced concurrent lie that they lost the original 9/11 tapes (which were PAID FOR BY THE MASSES) comes to mind] - as it is well known that, eventually, "the truth will out;" Or,
2. In a hope to distract the masses from some generalized awareness/"critical mass" OR
3. As a distraction against some soon to be revealed lie. (On this front, what comes to mind - one would hope - would be some impending revelation of the BBC's involvement in the cover up of UFOs and the BBC's concurrent INTENTIONAL slander of those good people who stood up to speak truth to power about what they happened to see. THAT IS EVIL IN ACTION. And now they - the BBC - just say, "Oops, so sorry, old chum," as if that would get back jobs lost, reputations and years of lives destroyed, the BBC's lies.and slander. It won't! it can't!
My soul, oh so sadly believes that they - the PTB - worry too much about such matters as the masses, which constitute the bulk of their citizenry, seem to mostly be idiots who would prefer to be kept sheep.
The span between commission of such past events/lies and their eventual admission, usually runs one or two generations. Such admissions ARE ALWAYS about giving the PTB/Gov credibility NOW, as they are stating, in effect: "See! Look how honest we are! We even admit when we lie!" (Note the lie by omission : failing to note the 58 year time delay - so that the facts involved - except as useful for a rational analysis of the sort in which the masses do not engage - no longer matter as they no longer hold any current chance of modifying where we are now nor where we are going from here.)
And what amazed me then and shocks me now is how the people keep buying it!!!
ARGH! My soul cries.
