Since the beginning of the month, several UFO sightings have been reported in the Champagne-Ardenne region (North East France). The strangest case is that of a huge "object" that was sighted on the 7th November between the Aisne and Marne departments.

Reims, Château-Thierry, Charleville-Mézières... UFO's are making the news again in the region. After a summer marked by a series of sightings on the three departments of Aisne, Marne and Ardennes, new reports have been pouring in since the beginning of the month on private researchers' desks. Among the many reported cases, the strangest one happened on Saturday November the 7th, in Aisnes, at the border with Marne, between Fère-en-Tardenois and Dormans. As he was driving by the end of the day on the RD6 (B-road), heading towards Trélou-sur-Marne, a driver noticed a "very big object hovering above a
wood", tells Christian Comtesse, an Alsatian researcher who collected the witness's report.

A sort of headlight was visible on the front of the object, which had the shape of a cigar in horizontal position. "The dimensions are enormous, since the witness gives an estimated size of about 260 feet width and about 330 feet length. It was far bigger than a Boeing flying low. I went to the spot with the witness; from his description, I think the UFO must have been about 165-200 feet above the ground."

The witness noticed the UFO after he left the village of Courmon, about 300-600 feet from the A4 (highway) bridge. The UFO was beyond the highway. As he continued driving, the witness "practically passed under it". He saw many lights on the surface; he was frightened, so he didn't stop. He continued to drive towards Trélou-sur-Marne. The sighting lasted six or seven minutes, during which the object didn't move. No sound was perceived.

During his investigation, Christian Comtesse found out that a second person (a woman) seems to have witnessed the same phenomena that night. Scared of being ridiculed, these 2 witnesses asked to remain anonymous. M. Comtesse considers they are reliable and would like to find other witnesses who might have seen this UFO. He even encouraged them to report it to the gendarmerie service dealing with this type of observation, in coordination with the GEIPAN (official service dealing with UFO's).

"Given its very big size, the object should have been visible from the A4 highway, on the right, towards Reims". That road section is 6 miles from Dormans' toll. Only the accumlation of data will allow us to get a more detailed description of the phenomena, in order to possibly find out a rational explanation - though for the moment, Christian Comtesse has no hypothesis. "I really have no clue as to what it could be."
