The UFO Traffic Report for Friday, July 17, 2009, includes 12 selected sightings over 12 states, according to witness statements filed in the past 48 hours with the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) database.

Today's stories include: An interesting case out of Oklahoma where the object beamed light to the ground area where the witnesses were standing, and then three jets moved in as though they were giving chase; and triangle-shaped cases over Texas and New Mexico.

In other News: Colorado MUFON Director Leslie Varnicle offers an update to a March 22 sighting - Metallic UFO hovers over Colorado highway. "The two assigned FI have attempted to contact this witness but have received no response so the case has been closed out as UNKNOWN." Varnicle says they allowed a "longer than usual" response time from the witnesses, and they also searched for additional witnesses. For the moment, this closes out MUFON Case # 17400. Varnicle says she will report back if additional details become available.

Please keep in mind that most UFO reports can be explained as something natural or manmade. If MUFON investigates and reports back on any of these cases, I will update this page. The following reports and their headlines are unedited. You can read my selected cases by type of UFO report at the UFO Traffic Report index page.

Oklahoma, July 8, 2009 - Star like light low to ground, stopped shined a light down on us. MUFON Case # 18108.

An Oklahoma man and his daughter watched a white light similar to a star move overhead. The object stopped and shined a "blinding light" down to the ground for about 10 seconds. As the light then moved south, three jets moved into the area and appeared to be chasing the object. They estimate the light was about 300 feet in the air.

Texas, July 16, 2009 - Huge rectangle/triangular object with bars of white light seen over loop 289. MUFON Case # 18136.

Two Texas witnesses near Lubbock watched what they first thought was a star in the sky. The object made a sudden sharp change in direction; and finally changed direction again - this time heading toward the witnesses. As the object came closer, they could see "there was a distinctive set of two rows of lights, a top and bottom row, if you will. The top had a very pronounced set of white beams or bar looking lights. The top had a blue flashing light on the western corner, the bottom had a red flashing light on the eastern corner, the rest were hot white." They described the object as "massive" and moving fast, and after another direction change, it appeared to be "a very distinctive triangular shape."

New Mexico, July 17, 2009 - Triangle shape with flashing lights. MUFON Case # 18138.

A New Mexico witness had a thought to step outside to look for a UFO in the sky - and there was indeed a strange object in the sky "just coming over the back yard heading towards Phoenix." The silent object was a triangle shape, "yellow/white, red and then green lights flashing, with a bright white/yellow at the nose, or point of the triangle." The witness watched the object in the distance for 45 minutes as it maneuvered at higher altitudes and at times moving low to the ground.

Utah, July 14, 2009 - It was dancing in the sky and it wasn't a satellite or a star. MUFON Case # 18102.

Many witnesses - like this Utah witness - describe a UFO as "dancing" in the sky, a word that someone captures the object's movement. In this case, a woman and her daughter report a chevron-shaped object in the night sky.

California, July 14, 2009 - Three, star-like, star-size, objects in a scalene triangle formation, traveling NNW to SSE. MUFON Case # 18112.

A California witness at the Laguna Campground, Mt Laguna, San Diego County, watched three star-like objects positioned in a triangle-formation moving across the sky.

Arkansas, July 4, 2009 - Luminous orange glowing object passed over our house spotted from the western horizon and traveled east in a straight line. MUFON Case # 18109.

A couple in Arkansas on July 4, watched a "luminous round orange object that 'glowed' and kind of pulsated." The witnesses say there was no sound and no flashing lights as it moved in a straight line over the horizon.

Florida, July 4, 2009 - 5 Orange Spheres Heading South to North West of Orlando, FL. MUFON Case # 18127.

This Florida witness saw five Orange Spheres moving in a straight line across the sky on July 4 with no flashing or pulsing lights. The first three lights were closer together than the last two.

Washington, July 4, 2009 - aside from obvious fireworks, we saw 2 reddish lights(no sound) moving at a steady pace. trailing apart from each other. MUFON Case # 18130.

A Washington witness and his Grandma "saw a reddish glowing light" moving toward them about 200 to 300 feet above a cluster of trees. The object made a gradual turn from eastbound to southbound. While they were watching that object, a second similar object followed the same course, but about one-half mile behind the first object. The silent objects were observed to be circular in shape, about the size of a "bulldozer" tire and traveling between 14 and 22 mph. Once heading south, they made a slight increase in altitude and gradually faded from sight.

New Jersey, July 10, 2009 - Disc object hovering. MUFON Case # 18115.

The New Jersey witness in this case offered very little testimony, except that a disc-shaped object was hovering in the sky overhead, and then it shot away quickly. The image had to be cropped and blown up to show you - and there's not much there to see. The witness made two other reports, MUFON Case # 18137 and MUFON Case # 18118 - offering video in both of those reports - but again, very little could be seen.

Pennsylvania, March 31, 2009 - Three aligned bright white objects in sky. MUFON Case # 18120.

A 20-year-old Pennsylvania witness - who may be confusing MUFON with Bill Birnes and the History Channel series, UFO Hunters - reports driving onto Route 309 between Perkasie and Quakertown, and spotting "three aligned bright white objects in the sky." The objects seemed to be hovering just a few miles away, but were gone "in a flash" after five minutes.

Oregon, July 9, 2009 - Silent, low-altitude flaming yellow-white oblong-shaped luminous body across a cloudless urban night sky. MUFON Case # 18133.

An Oregon witness saw "a silent yellow-white oblong-shaped light" that moved overhead at about 1,500 feet and moving an estimated 80 to 100 mph. "The luminous object had a slightly flaming appearance, as if short flat membranes of the yellow-white light were slowly fluttering on the surface of, or next to, the light-object as it flew. Only a single luminous object was visible, without a visible body, no wings, no stabilizers, etc." Possibly unrelated, a few moments later, a commercial 737 moved overhead at the same low altitude and moved off in the same direction.

Michigan, June 19, 2009 - saw a small disc shaped light transverse the sky, the luminosity from the craft was even and bright the whole time, no wings, no sound, no reflection from sun. MUFON Case # 18141.

A Michigan couple north of Chelsea, Washtenaw County saw an object they described as a "flattened egg" or "flattened oval shape" - an oval shape that was three times as long as it was thick. The event occurred sometime around 7:30 p.m. and they are hoping additional witnesses come forward and report what they saw.
