A number of people have contacted the News to say they saw some "bright orange lights" in the sky above Chard over the weekend ... leading to speculation of UFO sightings in the area.

One woman, who did not want to be named for fear of being ridiculed, said she was at a barbecue on Saturday night in Lower Touches, Chard, when she witnessed the strange phenomenon.

"There were about eight bright orange lights moving very slowly," she said.

"We got the binoculars out to have a closer look and all we could see was a big burning glow.

"They weren't making any noise.

"Admittedly I had been drinking but there were others at the barbecue who hadn't who could verify what we saw!"

Meanwhile, Brian Dacam, of Ilminster, also contacted the News to say he also saw "bright lights" above Chard over the weekend.

It is quite possible, however, that the 'burning glow' may have been caused by some fireworks understood to have been set off during a birthday party bash at Chard Rugby Club.
