Four people pleaded guilty Thursday to breaking federal law by marketing the drug Loprox to Kansas doctors as a diaper-rash treatment, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.

Loprox has been approved to treat infections only for patients older than 10.

The four defendants, employees of Medicis Pharmaceutical Corp. of Scottsdale, Ariz. each pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of conspiracy to violate the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act. Pleading guilty were Ralph Bohrer, 47, Steve Evans, 53, and Rick Havens, 59, all of Scottsdale, and Victor Lugo, 51, of Lutz, Fla.

Each of the four was sentenced to three years probation, a $5,000 fine, a $25,000 payment to the Crime Victims Fund and a $25 special assessment.
