MMMMMMMM
A seven-year-old has been killed in a dog attack Tuesday evening in Chilton County.

The sheriff's office announced the attack on its Facebook page.

Deputies went to the County Road 147 area near Calera on July 22 about 6:10 p.m. and found that the child had suffered serious injuries as the result on an attack "... by one or more aggressive dogs," the post states. The child was taken for medical treatment but died from their injuries, according to the post.

The child's name and gender were not released. The sheriff's office later posted an update stating that the "dogs" have been found and have been taken into custody. The owner of the dogs is "cooperating fully," in the investigation, the update states.

Chilton County Animal Control is also involved in the investigation, and the sheriff's office did not release the breed of the dogs. "The investigation is focusing on the facts, not breed speculation," the post states. "What matters is accountability, not assumptions."

"Our hearts are broken for the child and the family affected by this terrible loss," said Sheriff John Shearon. "We are fully committed to a thorough investigation to determine how this tragedy occurred and to help prevent anything like this from happening again."

The sheriff's office asked all residents to make sure their pets are properly secured and to follow all local animal control laws.
