The standing water, which has been going on for five consecutive days, shows a trend that is increasingly widespread and is causing concern among local residents.
Tidal floods are still inundating the Muara Angke Penjaringan area, North Jakarta, Tuesday (19/11). The tidal flood has been going on for 5 days.
Some residents are still staying in their homes and fleeing if the water starts to rise. Residents admitted that they had just received rice boxes from the sub-district and were now starting to need clean water and medicine.
Meanwhile, BPBD DKI Jakarta warned of the potential for coastal flooding (rob) on 14-21 November 2024 in 10 coastal areas north of Jakarta.
Indonesia's sinking man, and I don't want to swim.

From a Bloomberg article: "Venice is sinking. So are Rotterdam, Bangkok and New York. But no place compares to Jakarta, the fastest-sinking megacity on the planet. Over the past 25 years, the hardest-hit areas of Indonesia’s capital have subsided more than 16 feet. The city has until 2030 to figure out a solution, experts say, or it will be too late to hold back the Java Sea." [Link]
Baybars You probably know, but it bears repeating that Jakarta is built on a swamp. Just like Venice, and parts of Bangkok and NY (eg. La Guardia). Also Miami, DC, New Orleans, Tokyo, Mexico city, parts of London and Paris..
In all of these places it's hard to build long-lasting foundations, as all of them slowly submerge under the weight.
The people in Venice found some ingenious solutions 1500 years ago that still keep many of their buildings standing [Link]
Richer Fascinating video. Thanks. Even though I've read a bit about the architecture, I learned quite a bit from your link.
Very smart group of people escaped to those islands. They must have destroyed many a forest to get all those piles. And the brick? Where was that fired and with what? More wood?
There is a reason ancient cultures typically did not have "long-term" settlements near the coast.
The reason is NOT "Global Warming" or "Climate Change" man-made....the reason is because the big Sun in the sky sometimes gets in a "bad mood" I reckon.....but if the "reason" is not understood or is obfuscated, then that confusion leads to needless death.....
End of the day - the ancient cultures realized - on the coast is not a place for any permanent settlement.
~
But - please.....lets not confuse terms here - and the use of the "Global Warming" narrative by the so-called elitist including the Pope imposter - is really most insidious and wrong - cause this planet could support so much more. Its just some of these so-called "elitist" in their twisted minds - don't realize - they ain't really exceptional - they are just one of the rest of us - even if they are billionaires - cause remember - the eye of the needle is fine - and you can't take your fiat currency to heaven - in fact - it bounds you to the ground - and then it subsumes you - and then you perish - your soul burns in hell. Forever gone - and you thought you were elite - oh how wrong...the peasants know better.
Buffalo_Ken Ancient cultures were somewhat more 'aware' of their surroundings than we are. Ancient cultures had longer memories that we do, even when they didn't have the printing press or the internet.
I'm wondering at what point humanity lost its common sense.
Baybars - I think recently it happened when the elitist made a concerted effort to block the ideas of Kropotkin - but there is no keeping a "good idea" down.
If we were more "Mutual" in "Aid" with one another - imagine the possibilities!
Buffalo_Ken Kropotkin. I have not heard that name in years. A friend of mine who has passed on now was a 'monk' in a monastery that eschewed the reformed Catholicism, and we would spend hours debating how the philosophies and ideas of Kropotkin (and others) could be manifest in society today.
Bolsheviks and Zionists have given 'communism' a bad name. I like 'utopia' [Link]
Baybars - I'll read that - but I think "utopia" is just a concept and the elitist love to twist those sort of things, but Kropotkin was a scientist of the highest order - he spent time in Siberia and elsewhere observing how other living creatures live, and then he shared his ideas in his seminal work - Mutual Aid. (link provided below).
~
Thing is - even back then there were debates regarding Darwin's ideas, but as often occurs the so-called "elitist" twisted things to their advantage cause apparently - they think they are "exceptional" - and I disagree whole-heartedly and truly - there is no way to keep a good idea stifled....and the effort to that often reveals those making said effort to be the hypocrites they are.
So I post this again - tis public domain.
