MMMMMMMM
In a horrific incident, an 82-year-old bedridden woman, P Rama Lakshmi, died after being mauled by a stray dog inside her house at Battuvani Thallu - a small hamlet in Rajanna Sircilla district -- around midnight on Wednesday. The dog ate away parts of the victim's face and body, police said.

Enraged by the gruesome attack, villagers killed the stray dog.

The incident came to light when villagers spotted the dog vomiting out flesh on a street near the victim's house. Alarmed, they informed the family who later confirmed Lakshmi's death.

According to Mustabad police, Lakshmi had been confined to a bed for the last four years. She was being looked after by her two sons who had kept her in a separate room outside their house.

Every day they brought her meals and closed the door at night.

"It appears that they forgot to latch the door on Wednesday night. That's how the dog managed to get inside the room," said a police official adding, "When the sons discovered Lakshmi's lifeless body, it was in an unrecognisable state. Her face and hands were partially eaten away."

Following the incident, police found the stray dog had been roaming in the area for the last three days. Locals claimed the dog was also behaving abnormally. "On the night of the attack, residents said they heard many dogs in the hamlet barking loudly. But they did not take it seriously, assuming it was a routine occurrence," the police official said.

The local police have registered a case under Section 194 of the BNSS (it states that if a person has committed suicide or has been killed by another or by an animal or by machinery or by an accident, or has died, it has to be informed in the police station) and started an investigation.
