An out of control immune system could be the underlying cause of Alzheimer's and other neurodegenerative diseases, research finds. There is now strong evidence that the body's own immune system is causing cells in the brain to die.
Professor Robert Richards, who led the study, said:
"Dementia, including the most common form Alzheimer's Disease, and related neurodegenerative conditions are dramatically rising in frequency as people live longer and our population ages.Proteins called amyloid plaques were previously thought to be the culprits in Alzheimer's, but the evidence is not strong enough.
[In the United States it] is predicting that by 2050 there will be almost double the number of people with dementia.
Currently we have no effective treatments to assist the millions of affected people, and these diseases are an enormous burden on families and the public health care system."
Professor Richards said:
"Our interest in the body's own (innate) immune system as the culprit began when we discovered that immune system agents become activated in a laboratory model of Huntington's Disease. The immune system may malfunction as a result of various triggers such as toxins, genetic mutations or physical injuries.
Remarkably, researchers from other laboratories were at the same time reporting similar features in other neurodegenerative diseases.
When we pulled the evidence together, it made a very strong case that uncontrolled innate immunity is indeed the common cause."
Professor Richards said:
"We hope this new way of understanding neurodegeneration will lead to new treatments. The study was published in the journal Frontiers in Neuroscience (Richards et al., 2016).
We now need to further investigate the immune signaling molecules, to identify new drug targets that will delay the onset and/or halt the progression of these devastating diseases."
Before 1970 there were no alzheimers cases in this country. Your brain is75% myelin, myelin is 95% cholesterol. Your brain floats in a puddle of cholesterol. All your hormones are made from cholesterol. You might see a pattern here. Who for over fifty years has been telling us to eat a low fat, low cholesterol diet? That's right, medical doctors, and how much training do medical doctors get. That's right, virtually none, so why would anyone listen to a medical doctor about nutrition? Alzheimers didn't exist in this country before 1970, and is now the #6 killer. Naturopaths have been helping people stop and reverse alzheimers for years. But some how the medical community thinks it's your immune system. Maybe their right, since their absolutely worthless dietary advice, along with excessive exercise and or statan drugs more than likely has caused this terrible disease in the first place. Nobel prize winning Linus Pauling (chemist and bio - chemist ) said all ailments and all diseases can be traced to a mineral deficiency. Since there is no money in nutrition, coupled with the fact that medical doctors have no nutritional training, let's go with another auto immune disease and raise millions of dollars for research that will lead to a drug to manage another disease. Because folks, managing a disease is profitable, and that's why the pharmaceutical industry is attempting to take over the supplement industry and attempting to eliminat alternative medicine.
