Belgium's Tihange 2 and Doel 3 reactors were found to have defects, "micro cracks," in the reactor walls in 2012, prompting Germany to file formal requests with the Belgians to shut-down the reactors before another Chernobyl happens. However, the outreach has been ignored and the Belgium Health Minister issued the most queer response.
Now, in what can only be described as an unprecedented fail, Maggie De Block, the Belgium Health Minister, has ordered iodine tablets to be distributed to the citizenry in zones that span out 100 km (about 62 miles) from the reactors to serve as a band-aid. De Block said that all women and children will receive doses of iodine to counter any radioactive release in the event of a future meltdown.
Looks like the Belgium Government plans to sweep the issue under the rug.
It makes me wonder how many other countries are doing the same?
