I pulled up site Director Peter Davenport's updated case files and requested only triangle reports - bringing me to this page. While the list is tremendous, I am linking only the latest 18 triangle cases below. The summary sentence gives you a brief look at what's in the public portion of the report - which you can read by clicking on the links below for each case.
As I report from the MUFON witness report files daily, it's interesting to cross reference cases with Davenport's extensive collection from across the country. While some folks file with both MUFON and NUFORC, most only report at one site or the other. So if you're on the trail of where the triangle reports are, these are two unique databases that can provide some very interesting reading.
We've often wondered why a sighting is reported in one remote area, but cannot be tracked - not like if you were tracking an airline flight between New York and LA - where you might have "sightings" of the jet along the way. It's clear from the data that triangle UFOs are most often reported after dark. California seems to be having the largest increase in sightings. And from casual data, it also appears that reports of triangle crafts close to ground level - under 1,000 feet - are on the rise.
Most ufologists are way past the "are they real?" cycle of the 20th century - the "tire kicking" mode - and have moved onto the "what are they doing here?" question - one that puzzles me most. I have moved into the camp that believes "they" have always been here, and that they seem to move in and out of just about every region in the country with an ease that suggests the technology involves inter-dimensional travel. Here one second, and gone the next. But as MUFON International Director Clifford Clift shared with me recently, "We just don't know what's on the other side."
As a daily UFO writer, I could simply play the tracking game - maybe keep count of the where and when of close encounters occurring around the country. Would that tell us anything over time? It's actually wearing me thin. But it does bring me closer and closer to more witnesses. After you hear enough first-hand testimony, a picture begins to emerge.
For most of the really close sightings - when you get testimony after a witness was less than 1,000 feet from one of these objects - the craft is usually silent and moving in intelligent ways unlike any known terrestrial craft - and then the object simply meanders away or suddenly bolts off at tremendous speed. There are other cases though where the witness and/or electronic equipment on or around them is affected by the sighting - equipment that generally rebounds once the craft is out of sight. And in some of these cases, you have the missing time element where the witness cannot account for a period of time during the incident.
How many more reports do we need where a witness has to apologize that their equipment was fine before, and then immediately after the incident? It's like they need to apologize because they can't explain what just happened. But most ufologists today understand that somehow these crafts can control - if they choose - the electronics on the ground just before, during, and just after their approach.
UFOs are not headline news, in part, because they are not blowing up buildings or killing innocent people with exotic death rays. In one frame, it's as if they are just another rare and endangered species moving about like birds in search of their next food source. They don't destroy property or steal our children - rather they seem to be going about their own business as if the humans on the ground are mere bugs. But there is strong evidence they do interact with humans when you include the data from abduction cases - although most endings include everyone safely returned to their homes with garbled memory.
The troubling question, of course, is what is their business?
So while the triangle sightings appear now and then to increase - this 2011 increase seems to include both an increase and closer-to-ground contact. The object reports seem to be suggesting more people are having closer contacts.

And for now, I'll keep bringing you headlines on where these cases are popping up. But you might make a habit of stepping outside and looking up between 11 p.m. and 1 a.m. - two frequent hours for fly bys.
