Update: April 17, 2010 - Florida MUFON field investigator Morgan Bealle tracked down a still image of the UFO from the Weatherbug.com camera. Additional story at
uforeported.com.
A Florida couple's UFO sighting matches an object captured on a Weatherbug video cam from the nearby Isles of Capri Fire and Rescue District in Naples.
The couple lives near Johnson Bay and reported watching a "large, bright, white light hovering about 150 feet from the ground water level," according to testimony from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON ) database.
Chief Emilio Rodriguez, reached at his home Friday evening, said he checked the Weatherbug camera the morning of March 29 like he does every morning.
He said the system allows him to review the overnight portion of the tape - and that morning he noticed a "big, bright, white light that came from above and then disappeared."
Chief Rodriguez is not sure what the object was, but he did call neighbors nearby to see if anyone had seen anything unusual in the sky.
One of those neighbors - a nearby couple - then disclosed to him that they had seen a bright light hovering three nights in a row at the same spot where the object hovers on the video.
Chief Rodriquez said he is looking into whether or not the Weatherbug system allows him to go back and review past days of video footage and to record those images.
In their MUFON report, the couple reports that the light was seen on March 27, 28, and 29, at about the same time.
"My husband and I saw a large bright white light hovering about 150 feet from the ground water level over Johnson's Bay to the west of our house," the reporting witness stated. "On the first night, it was raining when this happened. On the second night it was cloudy, no stars, no moon...and on the third night, there was a full moon off to the East."
On the first evening, they watched the object for 30 minutes, and then it disappeared in a "poof." On the second and third evenings, they watched the object for an hour. The object was still hovering in place as they went to bed on both nights.
Florida MUFON State Director G. Bland Pugh reports that a field investigator has been assigned and is following up on this case immediately. The live video screen can be seen
here - although the object captured on video is not seen - only the current images. But Chief Rodriquez said the camera scene is the same.
The following is the unedited and as yet uninvestigated report filed with MUFON. Please keep in mind that most UFO reports can be explained as something natural or manmade. If Florida MUFON State Director G. Bland Pugh investigates and reports back on this case, I will release an update.
Florida, March 29, 2010 - Bright white large round light slightly compressed completely stationary, silent and approx. 150 from water level. MUFON Case
# 22854.
For three consecutive nights (March 27,28, and 29th), at approximately the same time each night (10:25ish), my husband and I saw a large bright white light hovering about 150 feet from the ground water level over Johnson's Bay to the west of our house. On the first night, it was raining when this happened. On the second night it was cloudy, no stars, no moon...and on the third night, there was a full moon off to the East.
We ruled out that it was an airplane or helicopter because it was too low, hovered far to long, and was totally silent. On the first night, we watched it for about half an hour and it disappeaerd in a poof! On the second night, we watched it for an hour, and then went to bed before it disappeared. On the third night, we did the same.
On the morning of March 29th, Fire Chief Emilio Rodriguez called us about 8:30 A.M. to see if we had been on-line to look at the weather cam. He was excited and said, "The camera caught on film last night this large white light shaped in somewhat of a flattened ball that dropped straight down from the sky and then hovered in the same spot without moving until finally after hours, it just seemed to drop to the ground and disappear."
We were both curious and skeptical at first, but also at the same time had an eerie feeling that this was something very out of the normal. We have no major air bases near us, no military and no industry that would be experimenting with something like this.
