Location of Sighting: Edgware, Middlesex
Date of Sighting: 28/12/2009
Time: 12:02 Midday

Witness Report: On 28 Dec midday I went out into our garden to have a cigarette, as normal I scan the skies whilst having a smoke. I noticed a shiny glint in the sky and ran for my binoculars I keep in the kitchen, for such occasion. The object seemed a long way off and appeared to be at least as high as the planes if not higher. I called for my wife to come and look who was a little surprised by what she saw but said it must be a plane. As we took turns to look at it through the binoculars, it appeared that a powerful light beam was now on and pointing our general direction (just like a torch at night being shone in your direction only this was daytime).

I asked my wife if she would get my Camera Olympus E500 SLR 150 mm Lens set on auto. The object was difficult to see in the camera viewfinder as it did not zoom like the binoculars did, I snapped off just over 200 pictures and got the object in a string of frames at one point and have submitted two of them. The object remained in the same place for approx 20 mins and in its last moments of me being able to see it, the object turned into the most beautiful blood red colour, you could see it was certainly nothing normal you would expect to see in the sky. For the whole 20 mins airliners were passing below its altitude, that was my perception anyway. The object was NW of Edgware and was not a balloon from what I could see. After turning red and me trying to capture pictures I tried to refind it with the binoculars but it had just disappeared. Having spoken to my ardent skeptic wife she remains confused as she cannot explain what the light beam was or how it could stay in the same place for so long...... we are both agreed it was an object stationary in the sky and was nothing like a star a balloon an aircraft or any other object you would expect to see in one of the densest aircraft traffic hotspots in the world.
