Location of Sighting: Woodcote near Reading Berkshire
Date of Sighting: 21 November 2009
Time: 21.40

Witness Statement: I saw an orange light ascend - similar in color to a sodium street light - it must have been many miles away - it rose about 15 degrees above horizon and then started traveling east. But the very very weird thing is that it was rising and dipping and rising and dipping - til it eventually dipped too low. Having traveled from precisely due south to about 30 or 40 degrees east before losing sight - no sound - constant color and brightness. But the rising and dipping was way too quick to be a chopper or plane. About the distance I can only definitely say that it was beyond the silhouette of the tree line which is half a mile from my house. Other than that I do think it was several miles distant.

I reported it to police about half hour after I saw it. They phoned back and said there's a searchlight display in the Reading area - well I often see the Reading searchlights and this was not one!!! There was no beam, no reflection off any clouds....nothing. Chinese lantern?? Not possible - it was way too bright. As an amateur astronomer for 40 years I've seen everything there is to see. I don't have any answers but I know what I saw and its been on my mind ever since....
