Four schools locked down during incident

Calvert County authorities are searching for two masked men who robbed a funeral home and a bank Monday afternoon. The incidents forced the lock down of four schools.

The suspects first robbed the Lee Funeral Home at 8125 Southern Maryland Blvd. in Owings. The business is next to a PNC Bank.

Police believe the thieves may have mistaken the funeral home for the bank. It isn't clear what the robbers got, if anything.

The second robbery was at the SunTrust Bank in Dunkirk. A woman who works next door to the bank says one of the employees appeared to have been injured.

"We saw, I believe one of the managers get into the ambulance," said Mary Kay. "She was holding an ice pack on the back of her head."

Police say at least one shot was fired while the suspects were getting away. No one was injured.

Four schools-- Northern Middle and Northern High Schools, Mt. Harmony and Sunderland Elementary schools-- were put on lockdown.

Dylan Brotherton is an eight grader at Northern Middle. He says, "They shut all the pods down, and they put paper over all the glass windows that you could see outside."

Dylan's twin brother Tyler adds, "Our principal called an announcement and said there was a robber a mile away, everyone had to come inside."

Police searched for the suspects for several hours, but scaled back efforts after it was determined the robbers were no longer in the area. Residents and businesses are being asked to be on the lookout.

"It frightens me," Mary Kay told FOX 5. "It frightens me a lot."

The suspects got away in a silver car. Detectives are working on releasing surveillance video of the robbery or images that may help catch the suspects.
