The UFO Traffic Report for Friday, July 31, 2009, includes 11 selected sightings over 9 states, according to witness statements filed in the past 48 hours with the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) database.

In Other News: I will be a guest on the UFO Think Tank radio show with host Alejandro Rojas on Saturday, August 1, beginning at 9 p.m. CST.

Please keep in mind that most UFO reports can be explained as something natural or manmade. If MUFON investigates and reports back on any of these cases, I will update this page. The following reports and their headlines are unedited. You can read my selected cases by type of UFO report at the UFO Traffic Report index page.

Arizona, July 30, 2009 - Object was seen from backyard of home due south dropping below the line of houses. MUFON Case # 18409.

Two Rita Ranch, Arizona witnesses first thought they were watching a helicopter descending into their neighborhood with "two orange-ish/white flashing lights, and one that occasional flashed red." It appeared as though the object was going to land near the elementary school south of their home on Rees Loop. There was no sound coming from the object and it disappeared from their view below a line of homes. About 10 minutes later, they saw the same object ascending from the same area and ran outside. From the back yard, they watched the object move west-northwest toward Davis Mothan Air Force Base at 11:15 p.m. But as it rose into the air, they now noticed sound - "a whirring noise like that of a jet engine. But very high pitched in tone, like when a jet engine first starts. This sound stayed steady as we watched it SLOWLY fly low over the neighborhood. We lost sight of it when it went past the roof of the neighbor's house." Now they moved into the front yard for a better view, and watched the object move slowly across the sky until they lost sight of it behind a large tree. They report that the lights on the object were so bright that they could not distinguish the shape of the object, but "judging from the size of the lights and their distance apart, it appeared to be far too large to be a helicopter."

Massachusetts, July 30, 2009 - Object with 3 yellow lights over Horseneck beach. MUFON Case # 18417.

A Massachusetts witness saw what at first looked like a star, but then the object appeared to be three lights and was hovering in one spot. The object was observed for 5 minutes and "then it simply disappeared without movement or sound."

Colorado, July 20, 2009 - Watched disc hover over I-25 at Longmont/Boulder Exit then fly East and back twice before disappearing. MUFON Case # 18416.

A Colorado witness traveling from Greeley to Breckenridge on Highway I-25 at the Longmont/Boulder exit "saw a disc-shaped craft" hovering just east of the roadway. The craft then flew rapidly 20 miles east of that location and hovered for a few minutes, then returned to hover in its original position. The object then repeated this back-and-forth movement between these two points. The witness watched the object for about two more minutes and then "it disappeared from view in an instant."

Utah, July 27, 2009 - Descending lights, close encounter, sphere, 3, Strobe, disk. MUFON Case # 18413.

An Illinois MUFON field investigator was driving a motorcycle from Reno to St. Louis on Route 80, just crossing over the Utah border at the Bonneville Salt Flats exit when he noticed a white light at about 15,000 feet and about 10 to 15 miles out. As he drove, " the ultra bright white light descended" and moved toward him. About two minutes later, the light appeared again, lower and closer than before. This event kept happening every two to three minutes - "the light would power up, SHINE in my direction, then slowly turn off, as if were a river barge light." After about six of these events, the object seemed to be about one mile away - "the light shown at me, very close, one mile and this time it continued to stay on. One to two seconds later, two other lights to its left came on along with it, same luminosity, same distance, moving with me but NOT horizontally symmetrical to each other. They were all three equidistant to each other, but the middle one was at a higher elevation than the other two making it appear to me as a very flat pyramidal grouping of three white, brilliant, lights about 1 mile away from me." When the object came within one-half mile, the witness "saw what looked like LCD, brilliant orangish/reddish, lights SCROLLING from way behind the light, to the left in a huge circle and as it came around the circle, I could see more of the colored light," scrolling around the circumference of a huge, circular disc.

Arizona, July 30, 2009 - bright blue light traveling from the west to the east. MUFON Case # 18406.

An Arizona couple star gazing from their back yard "noticed a bright circular object traveling from west to east." They observed no blinking lights. The object suddenly became "really bright and discharged a bright light to the southwest." After the discharged light was out of sight, "the original object dimmed into nothingness."

New York, July 30, 2009 - Stationary Oval Object in midair, no sound, lights flashing fro one end to the other. MUFON Case # 18403.

A New York witness driving on the Loop Parkway onto west bound Lido Boulevard noticed "an oblong shaped object that looked like the size of an airbus" just beyond the beach and over the water. The witness said the object "had lights on either end, and a light moving from one end to the next across its entire mid-section, and a light below" and did not appear to be an airplane. The object remained stationary in the sky as the witness lost sight of it as trees obstructed the view. After circling back, the witness then noticed that the "sky was empty" and the object could no longer be seen.

Illinois, July 29, 2009 - Round Orange Orb flying from West to East, no sound. MUFON Case # 18398.

An Illinois couple watched "an orange round object coming across the sky from the west heading toward the east" in a straight line. They reported that the object moved across the sky at about the same rate as a passenger jet and that it "just seemed to disappear in the night sky." A few minutes later, they watched a round, white-colored object falling at a fast rate, that was leaving a contrail behind it.

Arizona, July 29, 2009 - same guy here from Arizona and we have another one. MUFON Case # 18396.

A Tuscon, Arizona, witness reports that at 8:30 p.m. on July 29, "yet another batch of probably 30 different military craft in the skies. The military crafts were all heading east, but one veered off course and headed toward the witness. "It got right above our house and ejected some luminous object which flared and disappeared." The other planes continued flying, and about five minutes later, "out of nowhere an object came from above the apartment I live in from the southwest and flew pretty much above us." The object was described as "saucer shaped" and the "bottom was illuminated" with orange hue from the city lights below. The witness also reported that a few meters below the object, there "were these greenish dancing lights." The witness estimates that the object was flying at 10,500 feet. The witness and his girlfriend then watched the object until it was a faint light in the distance. He then said the military planes returned and were spread out across Tuscon as they circled the city.

Pennsylvania, July 28, 2009 - While driving down the road to our left we saw a bright white light hovering very low near the trees, When we got up on it it flew so quick, we seen roundness and red, green, and blue lights. MUFON Case # 18394.

A Pennsylvania witness and daughter driving to a friend's house noticed a "bright light hovering near their tree line." As they stopped in their friend's driveway, "this object flew over my vehicle and proceeded in front of the house so quick then disappeared. It was very low, we saw roundness with a red, green, and a blue light. It flew straight across their yard and there was no sound. We did not see any wings or tail so I know it was not an airplane or helicopter."

Michigan, July 21, 2009 - Glowing orange fireball. MUFON Case # 18392.

A Michigan family camping at Lake Superior campground between Deer Park and Grand Marais "noticed an orange glowing ball in the sky that looked like it was slowly descending." They said the object had no tail and was not falling, but lingered in the sky NNW of the campground. The witnesses estimate that it was too big to be a star, and too small to be the moon. They watched it hovering in place for several minutes before cloud coverage moved in. The next day, several other campers said they watched the same object.

Nebraska, July 28, 2009 - Shimmering silver-metallic ufo hovers at 20-30k feet, then vanishes. MUFON Case # 18418.

This Omaha, Nebraska, witness noticed "a very bright, reflective object that seemed to appear out of nowhere, hovered in the same spot, then vanished. It didn't drift about or seem to change position."

The witness estimates the object at about 30,000 feet with "no fixed wings, contrail, or sounds associated with traditional aircraft." The witness says it may have been some inflatable object, but wonders how a weather balloon could just appear, stay in one position, and then vanish quickly.
