A number of residents of the village of Bunlap on Pentecost island in Vanuatu claim to have witnessed a glowing blue orb hovering above a hill near the entrance of their village.

Three local men were said to be returning to the village after a days walk from the airport on the other side of the island. The men were coming back from a conference in Port Vila, the nations capital when they saw the orb hovering only forty feet above the ground. They claim after about five minutes it shot off. They ran to the village and informed their neighbours.

The orb was described as a bright blue light and about the size of a house. Bunlap is one of the last traditional pagan villages in Vanuatu. A number of foreign tourists were subsequently told of the incident by locals.

Bunlap is home to the 'Gkol' a ritual whereby men tie vine leaves around their legs and jump from a high tower made of branches narrowly missing the ground. This is said to be the inspiration for bungee jumping. The event brings many tourists to the village.
