A Michigan family's May 5, 2009, close encounter with a triangle-shaped UFO has been declared a True Unknown, according to Michigan Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) field investigator David Twichell's final report.

Twichell interviewed family members and received a witness sketch of the object.

The original UFO Examiner story from May 9 is Michigan family spots Triangle UFO. This is MUFON Case # 16844.

The following is from Twichell's final report and is unedited.

I spoke with the witness via telephone on Sunday May 17, 2009. He reiterated his original report to MUFON HQ. The witness was traveling south on Michigan highway US 127 between Mount Pleasant and Lansing Michigan at 4:30 AM on May 5, 2009.

The witness's adult son was sitting in the passenger's seat and his wife and 90 year old mother were in the back seat. The son noticed a red, pulsating light to his right or east of the highway.

The light moved to the west across the highway in front of them and then back again twice. He brought his father's attention to the zigzagging light and the father witnessed it as well. As the red, pulsating light approached their position, it flashed into a solid, brilliant while light. As the object passed over their vehicle, they could see it was a silent, triangular-shaped craft with three bright, white lights on the bottom. They were able to distinguish two sharp corners and one rounded corner on the triangle.

There appeared to be a small protrusion at the back that the witness described as a "fin", although not like that of an airplane. (See attached sketch made by the primary witness.)

The object moved from the west of the highway over the vehicle and to the east and stopped to hover over a vacant field on their right hand side. Once the object was in this position, the driver's wife in the back seat was able to see the craft as well. The object hovered for about a minute. While the driver had to pay attention to the road ahead, the son, watched as the object shot off to the west and out of sight in about two seconds. The driver looked back to see it was gone. Total duration of the event was estimated to be between four and five minutes.

I spoke with the main witness (the driver) and his son. They both seemed to be very sincere. The light did not bath the car and the witnesses did not seem to have experienced a "missing time" event. All witnesses were in good physical condition before, during and after the event. They were all quite excited and curious at what they had witnessed.

Conclusion: a true unknown.
