The UFO Traffic Report for Friday, July 10, 2009, includes 15 selected sightings over nine states, according to witness statements filed in the past 48 hours with the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) database.
Today's stories include: a group of spherical objects over Colorado that seemed to be connected; Orange Orbs over Pennsylvania; Orange orbs in a triangle formation over Pennsylvania; an Orange Sphere over Kentucky; an Orange Globe over the Connecticut River; an unusual object that turned up in a Google Street View; a formation of four lights over Idaho; a circular or octagon-shaped object over Pennsylvania; a huge round light making a beeping noise just outside a Pennsylvania home; a triangle-shaped object between 2,000 and 3,000 feet over Reno, Nevada; an oval-shaped craft less than 3,000 feet over Kentucky; an illuminated disc over Ohio; an Orange Orb over Plymouth, Massachusetts; a disc or boomerang over Ohio; six glowing orbs over Colorado; and an object almost beyond description that startled travelers along Colorado's I-76.
Please keep in mind that most UFO reports can be explained as something natural or manmade. If MUFON investigates and reports back on any of these cases, I will update this page. The following reports and their headlines are unedited. You can read my selected cases by type of UFO report at the UFO Traffic Report index page.
The purpose of reporting on uninvestigated cases is to create dialogue. Offer your opinion below under Comments.
First up today is a Silverthorne, Colorado, witness who saw "6 or 7 spherical shaped objects hovering above the ground." The witness said the "spheres seemed to move individually, yet seemed like they were all connected, as if a cable was attached to them. The spheres seemed opaque." Watching through binoculars as it moved close to the ground, "the elk raised up, and went running as the spheres got close to them." We previously reported on similar cases - Michigan 'cluster of lights' may be another sphere-triangle UFO.Colorado, July 5, 2009 - Saw 6-7 spherical objects flying, through trees, etc.On Sunday, July 5th 2009, myself and a friend were at another friend's house in Silverthorne Co. His house is high on a hill facing west to the valley below, and the Gore Mountain Range rising above it. The friend who owned the home, noticed a strange object low in the air, across the mountain on the other side. I saw what looked like a balloon above 6 or 7 spherical shaped objects hovering above the ground, and moving northward. The spheres seemed to move individually, yet seemed like they were all connected, as if a cable was attached to them. The spheres seemed opaque. We observed it as it continued to move northward, as if it was probing the area. It would move upward and downward some, but wouldn't go very high in the air. Numerous times, it would move through treed areas. I thought it would crash, but it just kept moving through the trees, as if the trees were non-existent. I took a picture with my camera phone. One friend got out his binoculars. He watched through the binoculars, as the spheres moved towards a herd of elk. The elk raised up, and went running as the spheres got close to them. We watched it continue northward on it's probing adventure, till it disappeared out of site, north of us.
This Pennsylvania witness had two sightings on this day. The first was an Orange Orb, fast moving, that "streak at times," with a constant glow. The second sighting was an object at a higher altitude that they report it was "glowing brighter" each time they shined a laser toward it.Pennsylvania, July 9, 2009 - Murrysville: WEIRD TRIANGLE UFO-looked like Orange orb first!Murrysville, PA: July 9, 2009
Two sightings:
1. 10:23 P.M. - orange orb traveling from W to E in sky approx. at lower plane type altitude. Moved fairly fast, but did slow down, then speed up again. Appeared to streak at times. Constant glow, no pulsating like the July 7th sighting. This is the 3rd nightly sighting in a row! Thought a plane behind it was following it at first--similar altitude, but it continued on it's more southerly path. Another plane passed it too. Not the ISS or another satellite, we checked n2yo.com to see what was in the sky.
HD video footage of it with other sighting videos posted to Youtube on my channel: seeingUFOsPA
Uploading 3 blown up stills from video here(if it works).
2. 11:09 p.m. - "Dot" high altitude, white/yellow in color, traveling W to E (or NW to NE to our position). Daughter shined laser at it and it responded each time by glowing bright! Didn't shoot & kill us, so I assume it because they're smart enough to determine that it's just a light, not a weapon. Very exciting to get a response!!! Shot video, but was too high altitude to show up on film. We saw another high altitude one after, but the laser had no effect--same path almost, very small dot.
A group of Kentucky witnesses watched a bright Orange Sphere "with a hint of red" that was flickering slightly. The silent object slowed down, did not lose altitude, changed direction, gained altitude, then sped off into the distance until it was out of sight.Kentucky, July 4, 2009 - Spotted a orangish red sphere over the tree line that left and returned. On the 4th of July I was at my mother's house celebrating. We had just let off some fireworks and me and 3 other people were standing in her driveway. The street was full of people and we were not the only ones to see the object. As we were standing there, out of the corner of my eye I caught an object appear to the northeast just above the tree line. From where we were standing the object was approx. a 1/4 mile from us so it was probably 100-200ft. above the trees. At first we thought that it was a firework burning out and falling back to earth. After watching the object for a second we realized that it was holding a steady altitude and direction. The flight path was very controlled and proceeding from my right to left and lasted a minute or two. The object was a sphere that was bright orange color with a hint of red and was flickering slightly. The object seemed to slow for a seconds in its flight path never losing altitude and then curved off to the right heading directly north. We could see the object gaining altitude and speed as it went off into the distance until it disappeared.
As you can imagine we were baffled. My mother lives in the flight path to the airport in town and planes fly over everyday but you can hear and plainly see them. This object did not make a sound or have any familiar lights on it to signal it was an airplane. That same night about an hour before the sighting a helicopter even flew over at low altitude and we could distinctly hear and see it. The strange thing is the object returned about 10min. later in the same exact spot it appeared the first time I saw it. It held the same flight path that it did the first time and the object looked exactly the same, with no sound as well. The object slowed for a few seconds and then speeded up again to take off in the northern direction it had left the first time. Both sightings were exactly the same only about 10 min. apart. We thought the first sighting was strange but when it came back and how it got back so fast from the direction it left was baffling to us. No airplane or helicopter I have ever seen around here has that kind of shape, color, or ability to fly like the object did. I would say at least 10 people saw the object both times it flew by and nobody could explain what it was and none of us had ever seen anything like it. We were all excited as well as confused by what we had seen that night. The object flew off to the north until it was out of view and we didn't see it again. This is the first experience I have had like this with a unidentified object in the sky. To my knowledge there are no aircraft that travel the way this one did nor do any look like the object we saw that night. It is possible that it was some kind of debri burning out but the flight path, speed, and the fact that the object returned led me to believe that it was something else in the sky. I was not the only one to see the object and there are several people who saw the same thing I did and were as stunned as I was. I cannot explain what we saw but I do know that it is nothing I have ever seen in the sky before then.
Two Connecticut witnesses driving along Route 154 "noticed a large, bright, orange colored globe over the Connecticut River." When they arrived in Clinton, they realized that it took them two hours to cover a one-hour trip. They also point out three other Connecticut sightings from the same evening in the MUFON database and are wondering if they had the fourth sighting of the same object.Connecticut, April 11, 2009 - Bright orange globe seen over the Connecticut River down in leafless trees below the horizonA friend and I were returning from a wedding at the Gilston House in East Haddam, Ct leaving at about 10:30 on the evening of April 11th, 2009. It was cold and overcast because it had been raining all day. We were driving south on route 154 between exits 7 and 9 of route 9 which runs parallel to 154.
We noticed a large, bright, orange colored globe over the Connecticut River to our left down in the trees below the horizon. It was pumpkin orange, a perfect vertical circle, thick, paper like in texture with solidarity and sharply defined edges. It had a uniform luminescent hue to it.
It was not the moon.
We continued to observe it on our left for about 10 minutes as we followed the road turning right then up a hill, down a hill and up to where the road leveled off for quite a ways. The globe now seemed to be moving west-northwest on top of the hill, through the trees, towards us.
I thought about stopping and taking a picture several times with my cell phone but didn't because there was an ominous feeling to it. We both felt that. I don't exactly remember loosing sight of it. We just seemed to arrive at the intersection of 154 and I-95, 30 miles later.
As we turned west on I-95, the sky was clear and the moon was further off to the west, yellowish white and high in the sky. We talked about what we experienced. The solidarity of the vertical circle, it's texture, sharp edge, luminescent quality to it, the total lack of any sound and the ominous tone to the whole experience. How slowly and yet how quickly it moved through the trees. And I mean THROUGH the trees.
When we arrived in Clinton, Ct a little after 12:30, the yellow-white moon was in it's normal place almost overhead and we were glad the day was coming to an end. But it struck me odd that it took 2 hours to cover a 1 hour drive.
We have no idea what we saw but checking the Mufon site the following week I saw reports of a similar object being seem in Westerly, R.I., Bristol, CT and Litchfield, CT. all apparently in the same evening.
Could this be the 4th sighting of the same object on the same day?
Going in the same direction for over 100 miles?
All this tells me something unusual occurred that night.
What ever it was was definitely not the moon.
But what was it?
It bothers me.
So that is why I'm reporting it.
Someone Googled the address, 1801 Baltic Avenue, Virginia Beach, VA, and saw an unusual object in the Google Street View. Looks like a blimp to me.

Virginia, July 9, 2009 - Unknown object caught on Google StreetviewI just discovered your organization today in an article in the
Virginian Pilot newspaper. Just thought you might like to see this image while it is still on Google Streetview. I attended a funeral service at 1801 Baltic Avenue, Virginia Beach, VA yesterday, July 8th 2009. Prior to going I used Google maps to find the facility. If you spin the Streetview tool to the southeast and look over the portico you will see an interesting object.
There is a Naval Air Station nearby. I flew out of there myself for many years. So there are many possibilities, but the object does not appear to be a jet, helicopter, or even a blimp. Other possibilities include a banner being towed along the beach. I ruled out a streetlight, because they can all be accounted for in the images. I can't determine the date the image was taken.
This Idaho witness saw a formation of four lights moving across the sky at a high altitude.
© MUFON databaseWitness sketch.
Idaho, July 9, 2009 - Triangle Formation of 5 or 6 solid lights like a dimly lit star flew from the NorthEast to the SouthWestStanding outside watching the sky when from the northeast I caught site of a formation of lights, about as bright as a dim star, I initially thought was a triangle type UFO but noticed that the lights were not in a perfect equilateral triangle and there were 4 of them.
They were extremely high altitude, I'm guessing higher than a jet liner and moved smoothly without breaking formation in a straight path maybe 2 or 3 times faster than a commercial jet.
The lights never broke formation and I lost them when they disappeared over the tree in my back yard. I actually jumped the fence and ran down the road to see if I could get a better view, but I lost them.
I truly can not tell if these were multiple objects at a far distance or one large single craft closer up. The sky was clear with a haze on the horizon.
When I first caught site of these they were almost directly over my head, I would say at about an 80 to 85 degree angle. I only saw them for maybe 5 or 6 seconds.
The color was very similar to a dimly lit dull red star.
There was absolutely no sound but as soon as I lost it over the trees a commercial jet came from the west flying to the east. I'm curious if the pilots saw anything.
I drew a picture of their arrangement and approximate color.
Two Pennsylvania witness stopped their car and got out to look at a circular or octagon-shaped object that was "orange/yellow in color and the yellow/orange color looked as if it was rolling or moving."Pennsylvania, May 22, 2009 - Sighting of Octagon Shaped Object/FireballAt approx. 8:50 pm mother and I were returning home from a trip, as we turned from the highway onto her lane my mother stuttered do you see that????
I could see an orange/yellow glow through my windshield and I immediately knew what she was seeing (as we had a sighting together the previous year almost to the exact date and I had said to her 2 days before this that its almost that time again we'll have to watch for ufos...jokingly). I immediately pulled my van over to the side of the road and opened my door, stepping out I looked up above me and at tree top level or a little higher was a craft. It was circular/or possibly octagon in shape...seeing it from underneath I saw the center was a perfect circle of what I thought at the time was some type of fire..orange/yellow in color and the yellow/orange color looked as if it was rolling or moving.I believe at that moment I was trying to rationalize what I was looking at...a hot air balloon? what? If it would have been a hot air balloon it was close enough to us I could talk to the people in the basket, but what basket, there was no basket. We both watched from outside our van almost in a trance, speechless. I never actually saw the craft from the side only from underneath, it seemed to move slowly but actually it moved quickly if that makes sense. It move up and over higher and higher. I watched for a few seconds then reached into the car for my cellphone to get a picture... I found my phone and when I got to the camera device it said memory full so I yelled for my mom to give me her phone, by the time I got it opened to the camera the craft had moved a far distance away. I managed to get 2 pictures of an orange glow. We drove a few hundred feet to my mothers home by then she had her digital camera out and snapped 2 photos which didn't come out. We stayed there until we couldn't see it anymore it got smaller and farther away. I would say we were in a high state of excitement and panic for those few minutes, in the few hours afterwards were were still in disbelief and even the next morning I said can you believe that ufo that was AWESOME! She lauged and said yes it was awesome I still can't believe it.We did find another person in the area that witnessed a "fireball" the same evening and approx. same time."
This Pennsylvania witness woke to the sound of humming and beeping noises. She finally looked out her window and saw "a huge round light" hovering outside. She said the light was blinding. Getting back into bed, the sound stopped and the light source moved away. Then she said she heard a voice talking to her.Pennsylvania, July 5, 2009 - humming noise very bright beam of light shining through bedroom window voicesOn the evening of July 5th I was sleeping in my bedroom when I woke up to a humming sound. At first the sound was a straight hum, but then it was followed by short beeps. The pattern would be: hum-beep-beep-beep, hum-beep-beep-beep. At first I though it was my burglar alarm. I got out of bed to check my control panel only to find out that the noise was not coming from that location. I then walked back into my bedroom and checked my ipod. I then sat on my bed and remember thinking how bright the moon beam was coming through my window. As I turned to look out my window I saw a huge round light just hovering outside my window in the sky. The light was almost blinding, it was so bright. The beam of light that came across my bedroom was almost pure white light, and very bright. When I walked over to my window I was able to ascertain that the noise was definitely coming from this round light source. I wasn't startled or scared. After a few minutes I crawled back into bed. The noise then stopped and the light was gone. This may sound very bizarre, but as I was drifting off to sleep I heard a voice say "we have been watching you. As a matter of fact we have pictures of inside your body". It wasn't until the next evening that my girlfriend told me about hearing people on the music station CAT County talking about a UFO sighting. This is when I started to be come alarmed at what I had witnessed.
A witness in Reno, Nevada, watched a low-flying triangular-shaped craft moving across the sky. The object had two white lights on the rear tips and a larger, red strobe light on the front. The silent object was guessed to be at about 2,000 to 3,000 feet and moving about 200 mph. Using binoculars then, the witness said the object was a dark, gray triangle "a bit larger than a C-130."Nevada, July 8, 2009 - triangle low and slow over RenoAfter watching the 10pm ISS fly over, I was putting lawn chairs away when I noticed a low flying aircraft making a turn from swest, I noticed the lights on the craft were in a triangular shape; 2 small white lights on the rear tips and a larger red strobe on the front. it was low, about 2-3 thousand ft. and maybe 200 mph. No sound. The event lasted 90 sec. I watched the last part of the sighting with binoculars and could see the craft was a dark grey triangle. A bit larger than a C-130 which flew over my house and landed at Cannon intr.a few mins. after triangle flew west over Reno.
A witness and son watched a "cream white solid colored oval object moving very slowly" across the sky at about less than 3,000 feet. They said the object was silent and had no navigation lights or strobes.Kentucky, July 8, 2009 - White, cream-colored oval slowly moving ssw to nne,no sound, straight line.17 Y/O son and I were sitting on north-facing deck of home and saw cream white solid colored oval object moving very slowly from ssw to nne in straight line. There was no sound and no navigation or strobe lights observed. Height was probably less than 3000 feet.
An Ohio witness driving along Route 33 from Columbus outside of Lancaster saw a blue/gray illuminated light shaped like an "oblong disc" and hovering at an unknown distance. The object was one-quarter the size of the moon.Ohio, June 19, 2009 - Blue/gray oblong disc 1/4 size of full moon was seen while driving outside LancasterThis report was relayed to me (F.I.Connie McNichols) by Pete Hartinger (RUFOS). This is taken from phone interview I had with the witness on 06/21/09. On 06/19/09 between midnight and 1:00AM while driving south on Rt 33 from Columbus outside of Lancaster, when the witness noticed in the south a blue/gray illuminated light. Shaped like a oblong disc hovering 50 degrees above horizon, at unknown distance. The object was 1/4 the size of the full moon. As she approached it suddenly flashed like a huge camera flash, turned right (west) and flew out of sight within seconds. Total duration approximately 10 seconds.
Witnesses at Plymouth, Massachusetts, watched a silent Orange Orb move across the sky twice.
© MUFON databaseWitness photo.
Massachusetts, July 4, 2009 - Orange orb moving in a straight lineWe were in Plymouth waiting for the fireworks to begin when we saw the orange orb move across the sky. It did not blink or flash, did not stop, and moved at a consistent speed.
About 15 minutes later we saw it again, moving in the same direction, what appeared to be the same speed, etc... as far as we could tell it was identical in behavior.
We only saw it those two times, both times it came into view and left without stopping. We heard no sound from it. It behaved exactly like a plane in the sky would have, minus the fact it was not a plane.
We did snap a photo of it, although all you can see is just an orange ball. Hardly anything conclusive.
A group of witnesses in McArthur, Ohio, saw "a bright object with a slight discernible shape slowly drifting to the east over the town." The 45-minute sighting was also reported by a friend on the other side of town, who described the object as alternating "between a disc shape to that of a boomerang and had a yellowish smoky brown type aura around it."Ohio, July 8, 2009 - Strange object seen over McArthur OhioUFO sighting over McArthur Ohio July 8th 2009 3:15- 3:45pm
On July 8th around 3:15 pm on a clear day with some puffy clouds. A friend called me to tell me about a peculiar object in the sky over McArthur Ohio. I left within a few minutes to look for it myself. As I came upon a clearing I looked around and then saw it myself. I saw an object hanging in the sky. It was about a mile up in the sky. I could observe a bright object with a slight discernible shape slowly drifting to the east over the town of McArthur. My friend in the other part of the town was observing the the same object with some family members. When she originally saw it she said it alternated between a disc shape to that of a boomerang and had a yellowish smoky brown type aura around it. Sighting lasted for about a half hour to 45 minutes.
A Colorado witness driving south on I-25 noticed five or six "glowing orbs in the sky." The orbs seemed to be in a group moving left and right and up and down, until one of them drifted about a quarter mile away from the group. The lone orb eventually drifted back, and then all of the orbs "appeared to merge with each other" and then they slowly disappeared into the horizon.Colorado, July 4, 2009 - Several erratic moving objects. One drifts off, then comes back. All object merge into one and disappear into horizon.I was driving South on I-25 around 9:30 or so on July 4th 2009. I could see fire works in the distance coming from several towns. I was scanning back and forth and noticed 5 or six glowing orbs in the sky, not real close to any fireworks that were going off. They looked out of the ordinary so I watched them rather than the fireworks. The orbs were kind of in a little group moving slightly up and down, left and right, but were staying a a tight little group. One orb started to veer off to the right. It went quite a distance away from the others but they were all still in sight. It slowly drifted off to the side maybe a quarter mile. I was probably 30 miles or so away so that is my estimate. Then the lone orb started moving back toward the other orbs. Slowly it made it's way back to the original group. After the orbs re-grouped, one by one they appeared to merge with each other. All the orbs merged into one and then the orb slowly disappeared into the horizon. When I first saw it, I knew it wasn't ordinary, it was very different form all the other lights around it and it wasn't close by any fireworks. It didn't move like anything I had seen before and I looked for any sign that could disprove what I though it was, a ufo(s) of some kind. No blinking lights like on a plane or predictable flightpath like any plane either. I didn't know what to think at first but I quickly came up with the idea that it could be a ufo. After looking for any possible evidence to refute my beliefs am left with a strong belief that what I saw was a ufo(s).
A group of Colorado witness watched "a thin sheet of orange-brown or rust colored cloud-like substance somewhat rectangular in its confines of an estimated 5 to 10 feet long by 4 to 10 feet across from perhaps 100 feet away, that did not dissipate, flew across our path, heading southbound in Denver, over I-76 at just about the area where the overpass exchange to I-25 is reached when driving eastbound on the freeway."Colorado, July 4, 2009 - Almost like a large elaborate flat rectangular kite or somebody's intricate paisley-designed gate took off flying upright across the skyOn July 4, 2009 at about 4:15 pm what appeared to be a thin sheet of orange-brown or rust colored cloud-like substance somewhat rectangular in its confines of an estimated 5 to 10 feet long by 4 to 10 feet across from perhaps 100 feet away, that did not dissipate, flew across our path, heading southbound in Denver, over I-76 at just about the area where the overpass exchange to I-25 is reached when driving eastbound on the freeway. 2 adults and 3 children saw this UFO from inside a car and it seemed to come to within less than 50 feet and head more westbound just after passing us. I am sure it could have been picked up by camera, if there are any in that area, since the swift-moving slice-of-cloud or ghostly image was visible to everyone in the car.
My initial thought, as I saw it up ahead of us to the north/left of us was that this might be a toxic cloud that we have heard about, but never seen. It was lower than the clouds in the sky and was right in front of our vehicle as it passed us, heading south. We all had to really stare at it to understand what was happening and try to identify what it was. (It's just my opinion that it wanted us all to get a good look at it, since it went in front of our vehicle and then around to the side where all of us except the driver could continue to try to figure it out.)
The driver of the vehicle is a good family friend in the Jewish faith, who tried to reason that the anomaly must have some logical, rational explanation, like a fireworks after-image or a weather balloon. He had to agree, though, that due to the rapid and continuous rate of speed at which it traveled, while retaining the see-through, cloud-like appearance and shape, it did not behave in a manner that fits our understanding pertaining to clouds, smoke, or wind. He stated that it looked somewhat like a narrow, vertical chariot, and that whatever it was that we'd observed, "
it seemed to be on a mission." He describes the curling moving smoky or cloud-like areas as paisley, especially on the bottom of it. My son drew his version and had the paisley curling swirls at the bottom area as well.
I was the front-seat passenger who, likewise, suspect that there is probably some scientific explanation for what we presently have no knowledge about. What we saw seemed to be solid and yet fluid, as if moving around w/in the confines. We were able to see the white clouds behind it, through the areas where there were "holes" in the object.
This did not seem to be of metal or any substance that we know of, as it did not reflect light, similar to how the moon looks at night during an eclipse, is how the object seemed to just be there in the air, but flying, and as it passed us, the shape had changed yet stayed within the space. So while it was coming into our line of vision and while it was in front of us, and as it passed us, and after it was traveling southwest of us,
the shape it took within it's rectangular confines was similar to seeing moving ultrasound image of a moving creature, except seeming to have no 3-dimensional depth to it.
The shapes that we observed did seem somewhat as angels are depicted, having what appear to be wings, and although it was strange to see such a thing travel around us, we were really not frightened by it, just amazed. Like my daughter said, it could have been either an angel or a demon.
We are still working on making artistic representations of this thing, which is how we determined that it had actually changed shape yet stayed w/in a certain confined area, being fluid like smoke or cloud in movement, and yet not dissipating as it traveled upright and then as we entered the I-25 freeway, we could no longer see it behind us as it was no longer in our view.
