Coverage of the July 4th weekend UFO report surge continues with an additional 10 cases from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) database.
There are many similarities in the selected 26 reports from 15 states for this UFO Traffic Report for Monday, July 6. Due to the number of sighting that we're covering, we first reported on 16 cases, while this is the follow-up report on an additional 10 cases.
If you filed a July 4 holiday sighting with MUFON, but do not see it reported here, and think it was significant, please email Roger Marsh at tremontavenue@gmail.com with your MUFON case number as I may follow-up with a few more reports.
In a related story, the Youtube video posted below was shot at Union Pier, Michigan, July 4. The story is typical of our reporting here. The witness writes on the YouTube page: "A group of us were on the beach in Union Pier, Michigan watching fireworks. At about 10:45pm Eastern, we saw a reddish light flying from the Northeast along the shore of Lake Michigan. It was moving slower than an airplane and too low for an airplane but too high for a helicopter. It was moving Southwest and then stopped right in front of us. It hovered there for a about a minute or two and then seemed to just fade into the black sky. Then I looked down the beach and saw two more of the exact same thing moving towards us, one behind the other a few hundred feet apart. They did the same thing. I got my camera when I saw a fourth one heading our way. It too moved along until it was almost directly in front of us and then stopped and eventually got smaller and smaller. The lights were pulsating and seemed to be mostly red but other colors were also appearing."
Please keep in mind that most UFO reports can be explained as something natural or manmade. If MUFON investigates and reports back on any of these cases, I will update this page.
The following reports and their headlines are unedited. You can read my selected cases by type of UFO report at the UFO Traffic Report index page.
A deputy sheriff in Montana watched an object just under the cloud coverage. "The object was orange and shaped like a 'torpedo' type light bulb with a vertical orientation. The base was bright orange and the canopy was a muted orange glow." The object grew smaller and lost altitude as it moved away.
Montana, July 5, 2009 - Orange, glowing, vertical torpedo shape w/canopy less bright than base.
While on shift I noticed what I first mistook as a planet or bright star, orange in color. The object was appox. 20 degrees off horizon, WSW of my location. Minimal, patchy clouds in upper atmosphere, otherwise clear. Temperature in the mid 60's, humidity in the low 30%.
While watching the object through my patrol vehicle windshield I noticed it dimming and assumed it was indeed a planet/star being hidden by a cloud. I then noted the clouds and their height in relation to the object and realized it appeared below the clouds. I then examined the object through my binoculars and confirmed it was below the clouds.
The object was orange and shaped like a "torpedo" type light bulb with a vertical orientation. The base was bright orange and the canopy was a muted orange glow. My first thought was a hot air balloon so I stepped out of the vehicle for an unobstructed view.
As I watched the object grew smaller and lost altitude in relation to the horizon, indicating it was moving away rapidly in a WSW direction and still under any clouds in the area. It continued its course until it was far enough away that I lost sight of it, about 10 degrees above the horizon.
Factors surrounding incident:
Alcohol - no
Drugs - no
Photographs or video - unfortunately, no
Previous sightings by yours truly - one, over thirty years ago
Occupation of yours truly - Deputy Sheriff
Witnesses - yes (see following)
As I typed this my 13 year old daughter informed me she and her friends also saw the object. She thought it was an "orange hotair balloon" but couldn't be sure as it was "far away".
Nice to know I am not losing my marbles.
Hmmmmmm.....
A Pennsylvania witness saw three objects in the sky moving at a great speed and silent.
Pennsylvania, July 6, 2009 - 3 objects traveling north to south, tracked each for 5 mins then disappeared
Awoke from a bad dream, went outside and saw usual subject now in northern sky, and suddenly 3 separate objects appeared and traveled north to south, separately, not together, 2 of them were headed due south but 3rd one was headed south and turned east. All 3 were visible for 5 minutes minimum then disappeared, due to impending sunrise? Have seen the same object in sky over a year but now 3 others moving at great rate of speed across sky, no noise, no lights just reflecting off sun beyond horizon. This was 1st time ever saw anything like this before
An Indianapolis Woman and her husband watched a hovering light just above the tree line that they described as "composed of 5 glowing orange lights in a very tight pentagon shape." They stated that "during all this time the glowing orange lights did not dim or become lessened, although they rotated slightly as the object moved." The object "continued to slowly glide up and gradually grew smaller as if it were getting farther away."
Indiana, July 5, 2009 - Five orange lights arranged in a pentagon shape hovering near Indianapolis, IN
July 5, 2009. Between 10:30 and 11:00PM EST. I live on the south side of Indianapolis, IN. Went out to see some of the lingering fireworks and a moving light caught my eye in the southern sky. Just above the tree-line was a hovering object, composed of 5 glowing orange lights in a very tight pentagon shape. Although my initial thought was that it was some sort of firework, as I continued to watch it, it didn't burn out as I would have expected a firework to. In fact, the object continued to hover for a good three minutes, gliding slightly side to side, turned a little and then very slowly headed up. During all this time the glowing orange lights did not dim or become lessened, although they rotated slightly as the object moved. I still didn't believe what I was seeing and ran back in to the house to get my husband. At this point I was starting to believe I was seeing something not from this world and my heart was racing and I felt excited and a little scared. By the time my husband came out, the object was still there, hovering. After we watched it for another 2-3 minutes, it continued to slowly glide up and gradually grew smaller as if it were getting farther away. I said to my husband, "oh, they're leaving" - it looked as if it was a ship flying away. And after a few more minutes finally became a tiny orange pinpoint of light and then it was too small to see. I feel very intrigued by what I saw, and quite curious in thinking about what it might have been. I've always been fascinated by the idea of visitors from other planets, but until tonight have not seen any first-hand evidence of it actually happening. I only wish I hadn't been so caught up in watching and had thought to get my camera, as I do not have any physical documentation.
An Indiana witness at Greencastle spotted an orange colored light at approximately 5,000 feet traveling in a straight line toward Cloverdale at about 100 mph. "The object appeared to be circular or saucer shaped with 10-12 orange lights surrounding the rim. No sound could be heard from the object. We watched it until it disappeared to the south." Two minutes later, an identical object appeared along the same course and speed as the first object at the same altitude.
Indiana, July 5, 2009 - Two sets of circular lights in the night sky.
At approximately 2215EDT, July 5, 2009 a orange colored light appeared in the sky over Greencastle, Indiana after a delayed Independence Day fireworks display. The object was at app. 5,000ft altitude traveling a straight and level course southbound towards the town of Cloverdale at an estimated speed of 100mph. When the object was directly overhead we observed the object appeared to be circular or saucer shaped with 10-12 orange lights surrounding the rim. No sound could be heard from the object. We watched it until it disappeared to the south. No more than two minutes later another object appeared of the same size, shape, and light color and configuration as the first. The second object was traveling what appeared to be the same course and speed as the first and at the same altitude. We watched that object until it disappeared on the horizon the same as the first.
A California witness "noticed several slow-moving bright red lights in the evening sky. They formed a loose triangular formation, but there were at least four that I was able to see from my building." She described the lights as "electronic in nature, not from a natural or flame source. At least one of them had a very soft "flicker" to it, but the rest were fairly constant."
California, July 4, 2009 - Bright red lights in varying formations.
I went to take my dog out before the evening's fireworks started, and I noticed several slow-moving bright red lights in the evening sky. They formed a loose triangular formation, but there were at least four that I was able to see from my building. They were moving very slowly (drifting) to the East (or so it appeared). I knew this was like nothing I had ever seen before, and I stopped in my tracks to watch it for a few minutes before continuing on my dog's bathroom break.
When I returned to the home, I showed them to my mother-in-law who is visiting from Chicago. She was under the impression that maybe they were government or military related objects, perhaps relating to the North Korean missile tests on the same day. They seemed to be very high in the sky, and even when I looked through binoculars, there was no visible detail. The lights looked electronic in nature, not from a natural or flame source. At least one of them had a very soft "flicker" to it, but the rest were fairly constant.
We watched for a while, but there wasn't much action. We figured they were just something normal, and went back inside. When I looked later in the evening, they were gone.
Supposedly, according to various online sources that I have seen since (which is how I found this site), these same lights have been seen year after year over El Cajon, CA on the 4th of July. According to the sources that I saw, there has never been an official explanation.
This Pennsylvania family traveling home from watching fireworks "spotted a red dot" in the sky. As the object came closer they noticed it was a "reddish orange yellow" color. The slow-moving object "seemed like it was on fire" and appeared to be larger than a plane.
Pennsylvania, July 5, 2009 - Reddish orange flame in the sky, moving slowly.
My family was coming home from a firework outing, and as we were waiting at a stop light, I looked into the sky and spotted a red dot. The closer it got, the more we could see the color..it was a reddish orange yellow. As you looked at it, it seemed like it was on fire, flaming. It was moving slowly, and it was a pretty nice size, bigger than a plane. We couldn't believe our eyes, and I swear our voices were raising, we started sweating, and our hearts were pounding. I didn't think to turn on the radio though, to see if there was static. The sight was NOT a normal thing to see, I was so surprised. This is something that I never saw before, and all four of us agreed that it was a UFO.
It's funny because the entire time we were watching fireworks, my brother and I were talking about UFOs.
A Massachusetts family watching beach fireworks saw a red, glowing ball moving in a straight line towards their neighborhood. The object turned dark, resembling a "large dark circle type craft with glowing red sort of light moving in front part of craft." Witnesses estimated the object was moving faster than the speed of sound. The object was the size of a thumb at arm's length and moved away. Eight minutes later, and the "exact same thing happens with another craft doing the exact same route." Then eight minutes later, and a third object repeats the maneuver.
Massachusetts, July 4, 2009 - 4 dark circle shaped objects witnessed by 5 adults flying over 30 minutes in Gloucester, Mass.
On house roofdeck with 5 adult family members and 4 small children overlooking ocean and watching fireworks on beach. Red glowing ball/circle seems to either come up, or come from horizon from Ocean and head in straight line towards our neighborhood atop hill on Castle View Drive in Gloucester, Mass. Turns dark and resembles large dark circle type craft with glowing red sort of light moving in front part of craft. Craft was under clouds and moving very, very fast. One of the adults was former captain in military (father 3 star general) and comments that it is like nothing he has ever seen in the military and they wouldn't be flying maneuvers on July 4th evening. Also estimates craft is flying faster than the speed of sound. Craft is flying on straight path from beach and pretty much flies right over house and continues going in a straight line (still about under clouds, in terms of altitude and about the size of our thumb in front of a cloud, so seemed pretty big is size) until we cannot see it any longer as it is too far off in the distance. About 8 minutes goes by and exact same thing happens with another craft doing the exact same route.
Another rough 8 minutes goes by and a 3rd time this same thing happens. We are all pretty much going crazy in astonishment. Even all the kids are just in awe. Final 4th craft comes straight up from Ocean/Beach area (hard to tell as we do not have a direct view of the beach from house) and this one glows red and looks kind of like a very large orb. At first we thought it may be part of a fireworks display, but all the fireworks that we could see all end about the exact same height int he sky, way below the clouds. This one just keeps slowly going up and up and finally though and over the clouds altogether. That is when we knew it could not be a firework as it was way too high. Suddenly it just disappeared and that was it. We waited outside about another 20 minutes but didn't see any more activity like this so called it an evening and went in. Everyone has spoken today and are all 100% convinced we witnessed some sort of UFO activity. I decided to post this here in hopes maybe someone else saw what we did and has information. Also, on the beach today some neighbors commented they saw it too and had no clue what it was.
An Indiana couple and their daughter watched "a bright steady amber colored light coming from the western sky heading south. It had no sound and was very high up in the sky." Within seven minutes, the same thing happened again with a second object following "a slightly different flight pattern."
Indiana, July 5, 2009 - Saw two objects within 7 minutes of each other that had bright amber colored lights fly from the western sky to the south and disappear.
My wife, daughter and I were on our back porch and my wife and I at the same time saw a bright steady amber colored light coming from the western sky heading south. It had no sound and was very high up in the sky. My wife asked me "what the hell is that". We ran through the house to the driveway (faces south) and watched this thing make a straight line almost looking like it flew into the moon and disappeared. We of course were in a bit of disbelief and just stood there for a few minutes talking about it. Within 7 minutes, the exact same thing happened again only with a slightly different flight pattern. It came from the exact same area in the sky but seemed to veer more to the west before going higher than the moon this time and again, vanished. I had grabbed the camera between sightings and took some pictures which aren't great but I will try to post. I couldn't hold the camera steady enough but perhaps the pics can be used to compare colors with any other recently taken photos.
A California witness was driving when a large object moved over the West 10 freeway, drifted up, then disappeared. The silent object was described as being in a triangle shape with two white lights and one red light.
California, July 5, 2009 - Big triangle object with two white lights and one red light on it.
I was driving on the west 10 when this big object flew close over the fwy. Then drifted up until it disappeared. Made no noise, had 3 lights two white bright lights at the ends and one red light.
