Weekend cases have already been covered in UFOs tracked across Pennsylvania on July 4 holiday, UFOs spotted over 10 states during July 4th celebrations, and Annual UFO over El Cajon makes Fourth of July appearance once again.
While we have tracked two triangle-shaped UFOs, a cylinder-shaped object and a "dark" object over the holiday weekend, reports continue to come in from around the country of primarily orange-colored objects moving in a controlled manner. Many reports show the objects hovering and then moving away at tremendous speed. Many more reports provide firsthand accounts of multiple objects shooting across the sky.
There are many similarities in the selected 26 reports from 15 states for this UFO Traffic Report for Monday, July 6. Due to the number of sighting that we're covering, we will report on the first 16 cases in this story, and will follow up today with a second story to cover the remaining 10 cases.
In related news: Here is a typical report made directly to the UFO Examiner - a July 4 story from Helena, Montana.
"I was outdoors with my kids. Approximately 11:15, my daughter, who is 27, loudly and excitedly asked "What's that?!" I turned to see a fiery disk shape in the sky, to the south. My son, who is almost 12, my daughter, and I watched it for two to three minutes. It appeared to be moving from the south toward the west. It did not change size, shape, or color. It was quite high in the sky, say 70 degrees above the horizon. The moon was very bright, almost full, and was to the east of the object. The sky was clear at first, but clouds moved in and twice blocked our view of the object. The third time it disappeared from sight, we never saw it again. I don't know how to describe the size. It was much smaller than the moon, and many times larger than the brightest planet. And it was the color of fire."Here is another email we received from a woman in Kokomo, Indiana, who relates her July 2 experience.
"My family and I were coming home around 10:15-10:30 PM on July 4th. We live in Kokomo, Indiana -western end. There were at least 12 orange lights..almost in a big dipper formation in the sky. It wasn't fireworks..too high up, wasn't helicopters..no noise coming from them. And, wasn't planes..they wouldn't have been flying that close together. They were flying closer to Russiaville, Indiana. There were other people out looking up at them. One guy was trying to get some photo's. Don't know whether he did or not. The last time something happened here they tried to explain it as "sonic boom"..it wasn't a sonic boom. I lived here back in the 60's and heard sonic booms all the time from the planes from Grissom AFB. I didn't know who to report this to or if anyone else had reported it. Oh, they all disappeared..one or two at a time."All witnesses who send email reports directly to the UFO Examiner are asked to please file their reports with MUFON.com.
Please keep in mind that most UFO reports can be explained as something natural or manmade. If MUFON investigates and reports back on any of these cases, I will update this page.
The following reports and their headlines are unedited. You can read my selected cases by type of UFO report at the UFO Traffic Report index page.
First up today is an Indiana witness who had a rather unusual experience with lights around her home at 4:25 a.m. after letting the dog out. She noticed 20 or more lights in the woods around her home and then realized they were moving toward her - so she and dog retreated indoors. Then looking deeper in the woods, she noticed "a fairly large red light." Someone from the nearby highway pulled over as they were also looking at the lights. The woman then ran to her car and moved to the end of the driveway for a better look, but now "saw a large, brilliant white light." Back at the house, she was only now able to see the smaller lights, which "seemed to be approximately the size of a baseball and smaller. They were not identical in size. This experience lasted approximately 20 to 25 minutes."
Indiana, June 28, 2009 - Unusual lights and objects.
I was awakened by my dog who wanted to go out at approximately 4:25 am. I let the dog out and went and got some water. After a few minutes when the dog hadn't returned I stepped to the front door and called his name. I turned and put on my shoes and stepped out onto my front porch to call for the dog. As I did, I noticed small, round white lights in the woods surrounding my home. *I live in a fairly heavily wooded area of five acres* These were multiple, white lights that numbered probably 20 or more. I initially thought they were flashlights but I realized some of the lights were high and others lower to the ground. At this time I became aware that the lights were moving towards me and I felt a little frightened. The dog came around the house and I told him to hurry. The lights were still moving towards me and becoming closer. My dog saw the lights and stopped and looked towards them. I urged him to come and I hurried us into the house, closing the storm door behind me. I turned back to the door and some of the lights were quite close to me and the door. One went right over where I would have been standing and I realized a breeze had come up and that some drops of fluid appeared on the glass of the door. I couldn't figure out what I was seeing and even though it was odd and scary I couldn't move away from the door and continued to watch these round, white lights. There seemed to be a pattern to them, almost an ebb and flow. I changed my position slightly and saw deeper into the woods a fairly large red light. I thought it was a police car at first and then realized the red light was not blinking like the lights of a police car. I then heard brakes and towards the highway I saw a car come to a quick stop and I think whoever was in the car was seeing the same thing I was. *Which was a big relief!* After several minutes the car on the highway pulled away. I wanted to see the red light closer and so I grabbed my car keys and ran to my car and drove down the end of my driveway. Once I was at the end of the drive I realized that I couldn't see the red light any longer. I looked up towards the sky and saw a large, brilliant white light. At this point, I drove back to my house and was able to see a few of the smaller white lights that seemed to still float around the woods. The smaller white lights seemed to be approximately the size of a baseball and smaller. They were not identical in size.
This experience lasted approximately 20 to 25 minutes. I'm fairly sure of the duration as I was texting my sons who were gone for the week-end, telling them what I was seeing. I wish I had thought to take a picture but I was so freaked out by what I was seeing that all I could manage to do was watch.
A Wisconsin family on Lake Pewaukee "noticed a large orange-red object "floating" in the sky, coming from the east." The object slowed to a stop, hovered above where they were standing, then ascended into the sky and disappeared. A minute later, a similar object was spotted in the sky. One of the witnesses snapped a photo this time.
Wisconsin, July 4, 2009 - Orange-red bright sphere seen over Pewaukee Lake, Waukesha County, Wisconsin
My husband and I were with family and friends at his sister's lake house on Pewaukee Lake on July 4, 2009.
The annual fireworks show had just finished and we were talking amongst ourselves before preparing to leave. Best I can remember, the time was somewhere near or a bit before 10:00 pm Central Daylight Time. Some of us, including myself, were watching for additional fireworks behind the tree line across the lake. There are other towns and villages in the vicinity that host fireworks shows, so it's not uncommon to see multiple shows going on simultaneously on the Fourth of July.
I was looking at the risen moon and noticed a large orange-red object "floating" in the sky, coming from the east. I told my husband and he watched the object. He initially thought it might be a helicopter. The color was intense. I am an amateur astronomer and have been observing the night sky for nearly thirty years.
I'd never seen an aircraft with lights the color of this object, but I was open to any terrestrial explanation. The moon was nearly full and the sky had scattered clouds in it. At first I thought that maybe this object was a left-over firework but it never exploded and it kept coming toward the house.
Some of us were watching as the object slowed to a halt, hovered above where we were standing, then begin to ascend into a thin cloud and disappear. We were all nonplussed. This object was acting unlike any terrestrial object I'd ever seen.
I went into the house and came back out about a minute later and saw that a similar object was again in the sky, again in the east and moving toward the house, but in a more southerly direction. I took a photo of the object with our Canon XTi digital camera. I made sure to snap a section of the tree at the foot of the patio so that I could get the object on the frame. I didn't lose sight of the object until I turned to go back into the house. When I came back out a third time, it was gone.
However, my sister-in-law said that after I went into the house, it was making a movement that was unusual. As far as feelings and reactions go, I'm always curious about the night sky and have seen strange objects all of my life, so it's not uncommon for me. However, to be in the presence of so many others who were observing the same object was a thrill. I had witnesses to what I was observing. I do not know what it was and even thought that it might be ball lightning, but it occurred twice (or was it two separate objects?). All I would like is to know if others saw this event and reported it, and whether or not my photo can help determine what it might have been. I hope this information is helpful in your research.
Two Arizona witnesses watching a storm pass watched two cylinder/orbs appear directly over their house. Just as these two disappeared on the horizon, another two appeared from the same location. When these two disappeared, one more appeared above them. The witness says, "These objects were completely silent and incredibly fast."
Arizona, July 3, 2009 - 4 cylinder/orbs appear in the sky directly above us and fly away incredibly fast.
My girlfriend and I were watching the weather changes as the storms surrounding us were dying out. I was looking towards the southeast. I then panned towards the south and within an instant 2 cylinder/orbs appeared directly over our house. They then began streaking away to the west. No sooner that set disappeared in the horizon, another cylinder/orb appeared out of no where in the same location. My girlfriend was now also keyed in on what was happening and could not believe this other cylinder appeared out of thin air and began moving towards the west. We were both quite amazed at what we were seeing. As soon as the other cylinder/orb disappeared on the horizon, one more appeared directly above us. Both of us were just baffled that this was actually happening. I then ran inside to get my camcorder. When I came back outside approx 10 seconds later it was also disappearing out of site on the western horizon.
Recently we've had several weather balloons make appearances as part of a joint NASA - Univ of Mexico project. I saw those weather balloons and this was nothing even remotely close to that.
These objects were completely silent and incredibly fast. We often also have Air Force jets from Nellis often training above us and refueling almost nightly, so I'm well accustomed to what they look and sound like. These were not a jets, they were way too fast to be jets.
I have personally known about UFO's in our airspace since 1992 on a professional level. I worked in the National Security Agency from 1991 to 1995. This is only the second time I've witnessed a sighting in real time.
It was truly amazing.
A Texas man and his son driving south on I-35 outside of Gainesville near the Oklahoma border saw a very bright pulsing light. "The light was a very large, extremely white and extremely bright single source white light. I would say the source of it as it blinked looked larger than 50' feet across. It was only a few hundred feet off the ground." He said the object was moving above the highway at about 100 mph. The object finally passed them at about 500 feet overhead. The witness opened his vehicle window and looked up "and could not see anything behind it and did not hear any noise beyond wind noise from the highway." He said there was no noise associated with this light. And with all of the traffic along this route - nobody stopped. The incident last between 20 and 25 seconds start to finish.
Texas, July 2, 2009 - Extremely bright single source pulsing white light moving slowly over the freeway.
My son and I were heading south on I - 35 freeway just outside of Gainesville, Texas on the border with Oklahoma at about 80 mph near 11pm July 2, 2009. Ahead of us, we suddenly saw a very bright slowly pulsing white light. It was only about 2 times higher than a freight truck ahead of us - 10 degrees off horizon. It was blinking very slowly but rhythmically. The light was a very large, extremely white and extremely bright single source white light. I would say the source of it as it blinked looked larger than 50' feet across. It was only a few hundred feet off the ground. No other little lights anywhere near it was observed. No other obvious airplane type wing tip lights were observed. The light source was so bright that we cannot see what generated it or what was behind the light source. Whenever it blinked, it looked like a giant starburst of pure white light and it looked to be just flashing rhythmically. It did not change colors while it blinked along. The speed of it was quite slow as it moved along the freeway. I'd say no faster than 100mph.
As we moved south on the freeway, the light slowly came closer and closer to us and finally it flew past us going northerly. Its altitude was at best 500 feet. However, as it passed overhead, I opened the car window and could not see anything behind it and did not hear any noise beyond wind noise from the highway. Certainly, there were no helicopter blade noise nor were there engine noise. It is highly doubtful at a mere few hundred feet that a normal single engine or other type of airplane engine noise would not be heard.
It continued north after passing the car. There were trucks and cars on the road at the time. Nobody stopped. The incident lasted about 20-25 seconds from beginning to the point where it we cannot see it in the rear view mirror after it went northerly and passed us going southerly on the freeway.
It doesn't look anything like a helicopter, single engine or any kind of jet plane. It did not make any noise. The white flashes were very large and extremely long. It also held the white light much longer than a blinking flash would normally hold. I'd say when it "pulsed", the bright light source was on for at least half a second to 1.5 seconds each time . Then, it would be dark for about 1 second or less and it would blink again. The pulse itself looked at a distance to be wider than 50 feet. Certainly it did not look like a bulb or a wing tip light.
A North Carolina witness out for a night walk noticed a light in the sky about three miles away. He thought that the two lights were connected to each other. "I noticed the object was zig zagging up and down and accelerating at a high rate of speed."
North Carolina, May 19, 2009 - 2 bright lights moving in an usual fashion.
I was going for a night time walk and I usually look up at the stars on clear nights. This night, something caught my attention streaking across the sky. It was approx about 3 miles away and very high up in the air. I noticed the object was zig zagging up and down and accelerating at a high rate of speed. It didn't seem to be in any type of order or pattern. I grabbed my cell phone that has a 1.3 megapixal camera. The object was 2 lights conjoined on one object. I have enclosed 2 pics of 2 different objects on 2 different nights that very similar but were moving in different fashions 3 months apart.
A Minnesota witness driving south on Highway 52 with his wife and three kids as he was leaving a Judas Priest concert at the Taste of Minnesota saw "two headlights" at about 500 to 600 feet high. As it came closer, it appeared to be a triangle with three white lights at the corners and one strobing red light in the center.
Minnesota, July 3, 2009 - Noticed triangle shape craft heading north following Hwy 52 towards St. Paul.
Was halfway home going south on Hwy 52 coming from just seeing Judas Priest at the "The Taste of MN". As I was driving along I could clearly see passenger jets lined up to make their landings of to the west you know how you see one giant headlight. Well of to the east heading north parallel to the highway, at my guess 500-600ft, looked like two headlights flying pretty slow then as came more off to the side of it, it looked like the typical sightings of the triangle sort; three white lights at the corners then one red strobing in the middle [bottom]. It's dark and I have my wife and three of my five kids with me so I didn't keep trying to see any more of it as I was going by. I could not for the love of god see it as anything but triangle shaped. It did not look like a plane at all. I only noticed because I was driving towards it and it was cloud cover and it was easy to notice the lights because it seemed so low. Like I said, we were going in opposite directions so it was basically on course, nothing erratic. It was all ofabout 15 sec. My feeling was that I wished I could turn around to do some more inspection.
This Colorado witness was playing basketball when he "noticed a Black dot thing flying West toward Lookout Mountain (near Golden). The black or grey object had no lights and appeared to be about the size of a car.
Colorado, June 26, 2009 - While playing basketball in my back yard I noticed a black dot like thing flying west toward Lookout Mountain. It was windy that day and this object had no lights and was on the same course at the same speed heading into the wind. It appeared to be small.
While playing basketball in my back yard I noticed a Black dot thing flying West toward Lookout Mountain. It was windy that day with thunder storms. This object had no lights and remained on the same course at the same speed heading into the wind. It appeared to be small. Like the size of a car maybe. It was black or black-grey. After I watched it for a while, I pointed it out to my friend but he couldn't see it lol.. So I called my roommate out and he spotted it quickly and was puzzled about its identity. I think it was about 5000 ft up and moving at about 300mph. This is all a guess unfortunately. It moved across the sky about the same speed as a satellite in the night sky, but it was day and very low. It didn't look arrow dynamic. More like a boulder floating by and disappearing. I've been camping and working a lot or I would have filed this sooner. Any other reports of this?
These Missouri witnesses were driving north alone Route 435 about four miles southeast of Kansas City International Airport when they noticed an orange orb "flying low basically following interstate 435 toward the southeast in the opposite direction of us." The orb was flying at about 30 mph and 100 to 200 feet off of the ground.
Missosuri, July 5, 2009 - Orange orb flying low heading southeast.
We were driving north on 435 about 4 miles southeast of Kansas City International Airport. We saw several planes around the area, then we noticed an orange orb flying low basically following interstate 435 toward the southeast in the opposite direction of us. There were 4 of us in the car that all witnessed and watched this. We watched it for about 2 minutes until it was too far south to see it. There was a plane that flew about 1,000 feet right above the orb so you could distinctly tell the difference between a blinking plane and this orange orb. The orb was flying slow, I would guess around 30 mph and about 100' to 200' above the ground. It was flying in a very straight line, not erratic at all.
A Minnesota witness who had just arrived home at 11 p.m. "saw two large orange lights that seemed to be connected hovering and rotating across the lake." With two more witnesses on the scene, they observed the object to "rotate and slowly drift across the sky for about 3 minutes when they disappeared either behind a cloud or just drifted off." But very soon they saw three "identical lights which were in the shape of an equilateral triangle rising from the same spot as the first two lights." These lights completed the same movements as the first object and disappeared from sight.
Minnesota, July 4, 2009 - 3 Orange/Amber Lights Hovering/Rotating in Formation
My father was arriving home from a friend's house at around 11:00 PM and saw two large orange lights that seemed to be connected hovering and rotating across the lake. He ran inside and got my cousin and I to come out and check out the lights with him. The lights continued to rotate and slowly drift across the sky for about 3 minutes when they disappeared either behind a cloud or just drifted off.
Then, as we were walking into the house, I looked back once more and saw 3 identical lights which were in the shape of an equilateral triangle rising from the same spot as the first two lights. They did the same movements, drifted off in the same direction and also disappeared.
The lights were too large/slow moving to be a plane. Were in the air for far too long to be any sort of firework and generally hovered and behaved in a way that was unlike anything we'd ever seen.
Did anyone else see this?
A Florida family watching fireworks from their swimming pool at 9:30 p.m. saw a "ball of fire," orange in color and bigger than Venus move across the sky.
Florida, July 4, 2009 - seen what looked like a ball of fire or mini sun move from west to east or ne.
It was July 4th 2009 about 930 pm maybe later. Me, my wife and son were in the backyard in the swimming pool (open yard, no screen) watching the fireworks all around the neighborhood. Very clear night had good view of stars even with the full moon. Well almost full. There was like a tiny bit on the side still in shadow like 1%. Everything looked pretty good from our view, we can see in all directions and low in the horizon. My wife said OHH look at that one, I turned and looked and before I could say anything she was like oh that's weird. When I 1st looked at it I thought maybe someone close by, maybe a few blocks away, had shot a flare off. Then I realized what I was seeing was no flare just by the way it was moving. It was moving from a west to east or NE maybe but flew right over our heads then I thought it was a missile maybe, my wife said it's a UFO, my son said maybe it's a comet maybe. I know a little about astronomy and have a powerful telescope so I knew it wasn't a plane or comet its speed was that of maybe a satellite or a little faster going by. We watched it go overhead and towards the east till we couldn't see it no more. It looked like a mini sun, orange in color, was very bright when we 1st seen it, then faded as it moved away. I'd say it's size was well bigger then Venus or any of the brightest stars you could see with the naked eye but not to much bigger. We all decided it was a UFO and thought how lucky we were to see it together. Fact we really thought it was awesome and none of us were or became afraid. This is not the 1st time my wife and I have seen something of this nature, but that is another story. This is the 1st time we ever reported made a report or anything. I feel it's time to tell the people of the world the truth. We can handle it. We're HUMAN BEINGS, we can handle anything.
Thank You.
Comment: Hmmmm. Really? That's a rather bold statement. There just might be a few things that Human Beings are not yet ready to handle.
A group gathering at Hingham Beach for fireworks saw "an orange-red object in the southeastern sky" that was estimated to be the size of a BB held at arm's length. They described it as a round ball of fire that "looked like fire."
Massachusetts, July 5, 2009 - Orange light moved left, hovered for 5-10 minutes, reversed direction, and retreated at a high rate of speed
At the Hingham Bathing Beach on Sunday July 5, we had gathered to watch the annual fireworks display, launched from Button Island. We were facing northeast. Our attention was drawn to an orange-red object in the southeastern sky. It was maybe the size of a BB held at arm's length.
At first we thought it was a plane, as the flight path to Logan Airport was in our line of sight from south to north (right to left). But it was a round ball of light that looked like fire, not the typical lights associated with commercial aircraft. Then the light appeared to stop moving and hovered in one position for 5 to 10 minutes. Then, the direction of travel reversed to the south-southeast and the object moved away at a high rate of speed, first horizontally and then vertically.
A New York woman "spotted a reddish metallic orb fly over" her home. The object was flying straight and through a strong western wind.
New York, July 4, 2009 - reddish orb moving across strong wind
This will be the third sighting I've had in this area in under a year.
I was looking up into the sky while assisting my husband while he worked on our neighbors roof. I was watching him on the roof when I spotted a reddish metallic orb fly over. My initial reaction was it's just a Mylar balloon. As it flew overhead I noticed the orb's path was very straight, and was flying through the strong western wind we had that day. I got excited and shouted up to my husband to look up, I ran over to the side of the house he was on and shouted, "Look up, Look up!" I watched it until the treeline blocked my view of the sky.
When my husband got down form the ladder he asked me what I was shouting about and when I told him he was upset that he missed another sighting in our own backyard.
A Georgia witness and her three teenage sons watched "several bright lights which were in a row and seemed to be like a star cluster." The lights appeared to be attached to a single object as they moved at a high rate of speed, then stopped and hovered.
Georgia, July 2, 2009 - Saw numerous bright lights move up in the sky and then hover back and forth
At 12:00 midnight I went out on my deck for some fresh air and looking towards the eastern sky slightly to the south which would be approx. over gay Ga. I noticed several bright lights which were in a row and seemed to be like a star cluster, They appeared to be on one vehicle and attached, they then moved up into the sky at a high rate of speed and then stopped and hovered. When they moved up, I noticed that they covered a long distance in such a short amount of time that it could not have been an airplane. I ran into my house and called my three teenage sons up from our den where they were playing video games, they came outside and all four of us watched the UFO for over an hour as it moved up and down in the sky. At one point it dropped down in the sky a good distance and then climbed back to where it was, it also seemed to move side to side frequently. We also noticed what appeared to be a trail behind the UFO whenever it made a fast movement. We took a very bright flash light we have and signaled the UFO for about 10 minutes and it moved higher into the sky closer to our house but still a long ways away. After an hour or so we went back into the house, perhaps some sort of Army tests, we were not afraid but it was pretty cool to watch it, it was not a copter or an airplane.
This Indiana witness armed with a camera watched an orange ball of lights move across the sky in a straight line. The object made no noise. The witness plans to make photos available soon.
Indiana, July 5, 2009 - Orange ball of light traveling north to south in Westfield, IN. July 5th, 2009, 10:20 pm.
I was the only one in the Target parking lot from about 10:10pm to 10:25pm, taking a few fireworks pictures. Just trying out my new Nikon.
I was waiting to see if there were going to be anymore fireworks, and noticed an orange ball of light. It was moving in a straight line from north to south. It was almost right over me. At first I thought it might be a plane. But no noise, and no typical airplane lights...red, white, green. I got my camera and got out of the car, and took four pictures. And then got my film camera and took a couple more on film, which I haven't got developed yet. But the digital photos came out really good. I'll post them as soon as possible. My computer is running too slow to up-load right now. I watched it moving south until I couldn't make it out anymore. The whole sighting lasted maybe 3-4 minutes.
This is the 3rd actual sighting I've had in the last two years.
I got two good photos last year on July 24th. You can definitely tell that these are not planes or balloons, or helicopters, etc.
An Indiana witness with her two young boys "noticed a large orange ball in the western sky." The object moved in a straight line at a constant speed until it disappeared from sight. No sounds were heard and no flashing lights were seen.
Indiana, July 4, 2009 - Bright orange round light
While setting off a few fireworks with my 2 boys, ages 12 & 9yrs, we noticed a large orange ball in the western sky. Thinking it was going to be a firework display, I stated to my boys, "here comes a big one" but it never exploded. It moved in a straight horizontal line at about 45 degrees from the horizon and moved due north, never rising or falling from that line of view. It moved at a consistent speed towards the north until it disappeared from sight, this being approximately 30-45 seconds. It did not blink or flash and no sound was heard. I'm sure a few of the surrounding neighbors witnessed the same thing because the fireworks suddenly ceased until it moved out of sight. I quickly contacted a friend, a NASA Ambassador with her own observatory, to question if anything was scheduled to be in the sky at that time....nothing. I don't know what it was but it sure sparked my interest and curiosity.
A California witness watching fireworks noticed a "bright orange light moving fast toward us" that then stopped in the sky. The object was observed moving around this area where it flashed on and off and finally disappeared from sight. The object then appeared again "on the left side of the moon and did the same exact thing as before."
California, July 4, 2009 - Bright orange/red light Blinking
We were watching fireworks in the sky then notice an bright orange light moving fast toward us, then stopped in the sky. We stared at it to see if it was a Plane or Jet. Then we said planes or jets don't stop. Then we thought it might be the helicopter, then said that is way to high to be a helicopter so we stared at it for a few minutes, then watch it move around that same area, then flash off and on. Then it went from left to right up and down then disappeared out of the sky. This was strange. Then a few minutes later it re-appeared on the left side of the moon and did the same exact thing as before. so we recorded it. Sorry not a good video.
