"We have about 50% of the world's wealth but only 6.3% of its population. This disparity is particularly great as between ourselves and the peoples of Asia. In this situation, we cannot fail to be the object of envy and resentment. Our real task in the coming period is to devise a pattern of relationships which will permit us to maintain this position of disparity without positive detriment to our national security. To do so, we will have to dispense with all sentimentality and day-dreaming; and our attention will have to be concentrated everywhere on our immediate national objectives. We need not deceive ourselves that we can afford today the luxury of altruism and world-benefaction."
~ US State Department, 1948

Around 8:30 on Friday, February 13, 09, I was driving on the highway KY 119 just outside of Barbourville, KY when I noticed a large bank of clouds about 10,000 ft - give or take. Just out from the "lip" of this cloud coverage was what seemed to be a long, white cylindrical object, sort of like a plane without wings. It did seem, however, to have a "pinched in" place in its center, or an indentation of some sort about midway down the length of its body. It was perfectly still and did not move into or out away from the cloud. I alerted the passenger in my car, who also saw the object. I pulled off the road to get a better look. As I was pulling into a parking lot, I could still see it over my shoulder "sitting" there. When I turned the car around (which took all of 5 seconds), it was gone.
I was perplexed and couldn't understand how this thing could have disappeared so quickly, when it was no moving before. I pulled back onto the road and went back to where I had first spotted the object. As I was driving back, I then saw the object in the sky over our car (again, it was around 10,000 feet up) and slowly moving toward the bank of clouds. Then it simply disappeared. I pulled off the road and got out of the car. The passenger in my car also got out and we scanned the sky and couldn't see anything. I couldn't understand whether or not this object had shot over on into this cloudbank or what. (The cloudbank was long and formed a definite line of demarcation against the bright blue sky). As we were looking at this cloudbank, I suddenly felt the need to look straight up and sure enough, there it was again, hovering straight up over us, again at about 10,000 feet. Then it moved slowly in the cloudbank and disappeared.
The passenger in my car suggested that it was possibly a helicopter of some sort, but I have never seen a helicopter fly that high up in the sky. Again, I give the distance of around 10,000 feet, but I'm no judge of elevation. All I can say is that this cloudbank was very high. It made a white line against the clear blue sky and stretched for miles. As you looked further into the cloudbank, it began to break up into puffy "pillow shaped" clouds. The object, however, would go into the cloud as if it were hiding, then it would come out and sit there, as if it were observing. It was almost as if it knew that I had caught it watching, and retreated back into the cloud. Again, the object was white, almost a silvery-white, and was long and cylindrical - like a plane without wings. About midway down its length, it may have had a division of some sort, because it appeared to have a pinched look in its center. We attempted to listen for any sound, but it was so high, we could hear nothing.
