Dhaka - At least eight people have been killed and over 50 injured as a strong storm swept over Bangladesh's northwestern Natore, Sirajganj, Jessore, Rajbari and southwestern Bagerhat districts on weekend, leading English newspaper The DailyStar reported on Sunday.

The storms also damaged huge paddy crops and vegetables, several hundreds of thatched houses and uprooted many trees, the report said.

Officials in district administration and Department of Agricultural Extension were quoted as saying that people were killed or injured as trees and houses collapsed in the storm.

In southwestern Bagerhat district, one person was killed and two others were injured as an engine boat carrying 10 persons capsized in the storm.
