The ban on Borat swimsuit costumes in the name of decency at the Sevens tournament this weekend has got Wellington talking.

The leader of the Borats that attended last year's event says the fashion police are ruining the spirit of the event.

For the past year, Aucklander Mark Hansen has lived in the glow of his arresting party piece at the 2007 Rugby Sevens.

While the other Borats wore pantyhose underneath, Hansen wore only the skimpy cloth itself, as actor Sacha Baron Cohen did in his movie.

Nobody is allowed to attend the 2008 tournament this year in Borat's infamous outfit after the Westpac Trust Stadium banned it, a move endorsed by the Sevens management, the council and the police.

The three main costume hire outlets in Wellington say no Borat costumes have been booked for this weekend so perhaps security staff will have no Borats to turn away.
