Torrential rains, damaging winds and large hail have swept across Minnesota, knocking out power and killing at least one person.

Rescuers have recovered the body of a 13-year-old boy who drowned last night. Police say rushing water swept him over a small concrete dam.

The Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport briefly suspended departures because of the storm.

Nearly 36,000 homes and businesses lost power across the state.

There were several reports of funnel clouds in the Minneapolis area and elsewhere, but no confirmed touchdowns. At least two townhomes were damaged yesterday but police and fire officials haven't determined if the damage was from a tornado or straight-line winds.

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch, with parts of Minnesota expecting more heavy rain today.
