March snow covers the mountains in Malaga, southern Spain

mmmmm
While rain has fallen on the nearby Costa del Sol, the province's highest peaks, El Torrecilla in Sierra de las Nieves and La Maroma in Tejeda-Almijara, have a wintry appearance, just days before spring
Konrad has left and Laurence has taken its place after a brief respite over the weekend. In the province of Malaga, the inclement weather left an (impressive) layer of white in the Sierra de las Nieves national park on Sunday 16 March. Snow has also returned to the highest peaks of the Sierras Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama, in the Axarquía region of Spain.

As shown by the spectacular images taken by a group of expert mountaineers - and shared by Malaga meteorology expert and SUR blog writer José Luis Escudero - snow covers Torrecilla peak and other points in the area.

Despite the abundant cloud cover, snow could also be seen on Sunday from the Costa del Sol on the highest peak of the province, La Maroma, which stands 2,069 metres above sea level, or La Navachica, at 1,831 metres above sea level both in the Tejeda-Almijara mountains in the Axarquía, east of Malaga.

WATCH: Lightning strike hits home in Lebanon, Tennessee sparking fire

mmmmmmm
When severe weather is on the table, people in Middle Tennessee will worry about the wind damage, possible flooding, even tornadoes.

It's the same concerns that Destiny and Charles Atkins had on Saturday, but in their 10 years living in Lebanon, what happened to their home was something they never expected.

As thousands of lightning strikes blanketed the Midstate with the severe weather that pushed through this weekend, one of those strikes ended up hitting the couple's home on Barnes Drive. The strike caused a power outage in their home and even sparked a fire.

"We felt it," Charles said. "It shook the house."

This is the shocking moment a popular holiday hotspot in Spain is left severely flooded by a river of ice.

Devastating footage shows the swamped streets of a town in Costa Blanca after a hail storm and days of torrential rain left cars trapped in deep waters.

Concerned tourists and residents of Santa Pola were forced to stay inside as they watched on as the weather took a nasty turn this week.

A massive hail storm ended up mixing with heavy rain before it created a terrifying number of icebergs travelling down the street.

The neighbouring town of Rojales was also battered by the weather as a yellow alert was issued across Alicante.

Pictures show how cars were left fighting to make it past flood water which in some areas had managed to make it to the height of the wheels.

The Mozambican government said on March 14 that Tropical Cyclone Jude, which made landfall in northern Mozambique on the evening of the 9th, brought strong winds, heavy rains and floods to several provinces of Mozambique, killing 14 people and displacing more than 100,000 people.

Mozambique government spokesman Impisa said on the 14th that the casualties mainly occurred in Nampula and Niassa provinces. "Jude" also caused damage to about 20,000 houses. Currently, more than 100,000 disaster victims in Nampula province have taken refuge in nine temporary resettlement centers set up by the government.

Comment: The Guardian reports:
Cyclone Jude was the third cyclone to hit Mozambique this season. First spotted as a depression last Friday to the south-west of the island of Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean, it intensified over the next few days to a moderate tropical storm, affecting northern Madagascar on Saturday and killing at least one person.

Jude strengthened into a tropical cyclone as it tracked westwards over the Mozambique Channel, where sea surface temperatures of close to 30C provided the heat and moisture necessary to fuel the cyclone.

It hit Mozambique early on Monday morning, with sustained wind gusts of 75mph (120km/h) and gusts of up to 120mph, equivalent to a category 1 hurricane. More than 200mm of rain fell over the coastal districts of Memba, Monapo, Mossuril, Mozambique Island and Nacala in 24 hours, leading to significant flooding.

Italy's Florence on red alert after heavy rain, flooding

mmmm
Heavy rain swelled rivers and flooded streets in Florence, with authorities issuing a red weather alert for the historic Italian city and its surroundings, urging residents to stay indoors.

Eugenio Giani, head of the central Tuscany region which includes Florence and Pisa, urged citizens to exercise "maximum care and attention", warning of "intense and persistent rain" during the day.

The fire service published images of cars partially submerged in water in the Sesto Fiorentino neighbourhood north of Florence's historic centre.

It said that by mid-morning on Friday it had received dozens of requests for help across the city.

Schools, parks and cemeteries in Florence and nearby Prato had already been closed Friday after an amber weather alert - one down from the maximum red - had been declared the previous day.
