At least seven people have been killed and two are missing in flash flooding in North Carolina caused by Tropical Storm Eta.

Parts of the Tar Heel state experienced torrential downpours and as much as 10 inches of rain inundated roadways on Thursday.

The heavy rain in North Caroline came as Eta spiraled away from Florida, but left behind tropical moisture that mixed with a cold front to produce flash flooding.

At least seven people have died due to dangerous flash floods in Alexander and Iredell counties, while two others are missing.

The Wake County Sheriff's Office revealed on Thursday afternoon that the body of an 11-year-old-child was found in Rolesville.

Heavy rains brought by Storm Etau over the past three days have caused landslides and severe flooding in central provinces, disrupting traffic and badly affecting people's lives.

In Quang Ngai, landslides have unleashed massive amounts of mud and rock at Ra Pan village in Son Tay District since Wednesday.

Do Thanh Vuot, a local official, said people heard loud explosions from cracks in mountainsides at 1 a.m. Wednesday.

Etau, which made landfall Tuesday morning and weakened into a tropical depression, has brought prolonged rains to Quang Ngai and other provinces.

Flash flooding struck on 10 November after days of heavy rain. Some areas saw more than 250mm of rain in 24 hours on 10 November. More heavy rain has fallen since.

Record rainfall causes flooding in Napier, New Zealand - 9.5 inches in 24 hours

Record rainfall in has caused flooding in the city of Napier in New Zealand's Hawkes Bay Region.

NIWA Weather said Napier saw it wettest single hour on record when 54mm of rain fell between 17:00 and 18:00 on 09 November. A total of 242.4 mm of rain fell in the city in 24 hours to early 10 November - around 4 times the amount normally seen in November - making it the second wettest day on record for the city.

On 09 November, Napier Mayor Kirsten Wise declared a local state of emergency for Napier due to flooding. Civil Defence urged people to "stay at home and avoid driving where possible. If you feel unsafe at home, self-evacuate to family and friends first."

Heavy rain brings torrential floods in Al-Bayda, Libya

Heavy rain in Al-Bayda in eastern Libya caused floods Friday and Saturday in the city, leading to considerable damages to people's houses and cars as well as to public infrastructure, including a hospital in the city center.

Sources from the city said rain water flooded into houses and public facilities as the sewers were all blocked and couldn't absorb the rain water, in a clear indication of the city's deteriorated infrastructure and public services of the east-based government.

More heavy rain brought by Hurricane Eta has caused flooding and landslides, this time in southern parts of Mexico .

In a 24 hour period to 06 November, 315mm of rain fell in Oxolotán in Tabasco State and 279.5mm in Escalón in Chiapas State, according to Mexico's Servicio Meteorológico Nacional (SNM).

Previously Eta had caused devastation across Central America , with dozens of people feared dead in Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, Costa Rica and Nicaragua.

Silt, potholes, landslides bring new challenges after floods caused by Eta in Jamaica

With the Chalky River overflowing its banks on Wednesday, residents on Weise Road in Bull Bay, St Andrew, are hoping for relief soon from the devastation and dislocation caused by adverse weather over the past few weeks.

Apart from battling the floodwaters in their yards, as they recede, they are faced with a new problem: silt. Mounds and mounds of it.

On Thursday, tractor operators were busy trying to clear the Chalky River of some of the silt washed down from the hills of east rural St Andrew, which has been experiencing landslides in recent weeks because of rainfall.

Some of the silt had been lodged in residents' yards on Weise Road.

At least 2 people have died in severe weather including flash floods in Manicaland Province, eastern Zimbabwe.

Local media report that flooding struck from 04 November after 2 days of storms and rain. One person was swept away by flash floods in Chipinge, close to the border with Mozambique, on 05 November, where crops, bridges, homes and a school were severely damaged.

Meanwhile another person died in Odzi, about 130km north of Chipinge, after being struck by lightning. Buildings were damaged by strong winds in parts of Chipinge and Buhera. Hailstorms affected parts of Nyanga.

The flash flooding is in stark contrast to ongoing drought conditions affecting wide areas of the country.
