Last Thursday, WCTV reported about a 10-foot pilot whale found stranded on the coast in Taylor County. We've since learned it wasn't the only one, and researchers are speculating why.
Researches are starting to think there may be something wrong with the species. These animals travel in groups, and if their leader is sick, there's a good possibility the pack is just following behind.
Over a four day period, rescue teams and Florida Wildlife Conservation responded to 10 different whale strandings in Taylor and Dixie counties. Of those 10, only one was saved. The female whale is being treated at a rehab facility in Clearwater.
The mammal found in Hagens Cove last week washed up on shore and was in shock for hours before vets deemed it in poor condition. It was euthanized, along with eight others found last weekend.
Researches are now looking into what's causing them to beach themselves, and how they can be treated.
A man swimming at a south Florida beach was bitten on both legs by a shark.
WPLG-TV reports that Lt. Felipe Lay of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue says the unidentified man was swimming Sunday afternoon off Haulover Beach when he was attacked.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Ocean Rescue lifeguards say they became aware of a shark lurking in the water and immediately began alerting bathers to get out of the water. Officials say the bull shark was 4-to-5 feet. Officials say the man, who was able to get out of the water and get aid from lifeguards, was taken to Aventura Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
"In the process of exiting the water, a beachgoer was bitten in the lower extremities by what appeared to be a 4-to-5 foot bull shark," said Miami-Dade Fire Rescue spokeswoman Erika Benitez. "The person was able to get out of the water, and MDFR Ocean Rescue lifeguards immediately rendered assistance."

Colorado Parks and Wildlife is hoping to catch and euthanize a dangerous bear that attacked a 19-year-old staffer at Glacier View Ranch, a Christian retreat and conference center, early Sunday.
The teen was sleeping outside with other staffers when he awoke to a crunching sound.
He quickly realized "there was a bear biting his head," said Jennifer Churchill, a spokeswoman for Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
The animal attacked him at about 4 a.m., trying to drag him away from the group, Churchill said.
He reached up and began to hit the bear, and other staff members also attacked it. The bear left.
In what researchers are hailing a "spectacular discovery," a new study has revealed that praying mantises all over the world are feasting on birds they catch and kill.
The carnivorous creatures usually eat insects, spiders and sometimes frogs and snakes to feed their voracious appetites. However, research published in The Wilson Journal of Ornithology now shows the prolific killers also have a taste for birds.
The carcass of a seventh North Atlantic right whale has been found off the Magdalen Islands in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, reports Radio-Canada.
The Canadian Coast Guard discovered the dead whale near Havre-Aubert on Wednesday night.
Quebec's marine mammal research network, known by its French initials GREMM, confirmed to CBC's French-language service that it was not previously aware of the carcass.
Tonya Wimmer, with the Marine Animal Response Society, said the whale is a male, and it was badly decomposed. She also said it isn't clear yet what caused the whale's death, The Canadian Press reported.
The Department of Fisheries and Oceans told CBC News in an email that it is investigating the whale carcass to determine if it is a new one or a carcass that has been previously identified.
Six other North Atlantic right whales, which are an endangered species, have been found dead in the Gulf of St. Lawrence since June.

A minke whale is dead, despite desperate attempts by officials to steer the creature out of a harbor in Chatham, officials said.
Chatham Harbormaster Stuart Smith said a property owner along Oyster Pond River, an estuary flowing to the harbor, reported the 18-foot-long whale was dead in the river early Friday morning.
A team from the International Fund for Animal Welfare has been sent to retrieve the carcass so a necropsy can be performed to determine the cause of death, spokeswoman Melanie Mahoney said.
Smith said he was first notified around 6:30 a.m. Thursday that the whale appeared to be stuck in Stage Harbor.
A dog owner in Manor, Texas, is facing a host of fines and possible criminal charges after his pit bull mix escaped through the front door of his home and attacked a seven-year-old boy.
Video of the attack captured on home security cameras was released by the Manor Police Department, showing neighbours rush to the boy's aid as the dog continues its assault.
Police were called to a home in northeast Manor around 8 p.m. Monday following calls of an animal attack on a young boy. Police say Brison Aldridge was playing in his yard when his neighbour's dog took advantage of his owner opening the front door to bolt from his house - and run right for the boy.

An 18-year-old girl has died in Nepal after she was bitten by a snake while banished to a shed because she was menstruating, under an ancient Hindu practice that has been banned for more than a decade, officials said.
Tulasi Shahi was bitten twice by a venomous snake and died on Friday morning in western Dailekh district, according to local officials.
"She survived for seven hours after the snake bite but died because medical treatment was delayed," local mayor Surya Bahadur Shahi told AFP news agency on Saturday.
Some Hindus view menstruating women as impure and in parts of Nepal they are forced to remain in a hut or cowshed for day as part of a practice known as chhaupadi.
According to local media, her family took her to the village shaman for treatment instead of taking her to a hospital.
Local police confirmed that a girl had died but were unable to provide further details on the cause.
