SOTT Earth Changes Summary - February 2018: Extreme Weather, Planetary Upheaval, Meteor Fireballs

snow
As the solar minimum continued, subfreezing temperatures and snowfalls were still breaking records in February. Canada and the US experienced another arctic blast from the now split 'polar vortex', pushing wind chill temperatures in Canada to -62°C and covering much of the northern, central and eastern U.S. with heavy snow. The cold blast also descended to Europe and parts of Asia. This 'Beast from the East' brought heavy snow to much of Europe with some parts colder than the Arctic!

China was hit by heavy snow, disrupting transportation and flights, while Japan had one of its worst winters in decades. Snow also blanketed unusual places like the UAE and Morocco.

Heavy rain caused destructive floods in Indonesia, New Zealand, Cyprus and deadly mudslides in South America, while seventy rivers overflowed from the Great Lakes to Texas. Record-breaking size hail pounded Argentina, while California and Saudi Arabia were pounded by hailstorms that caused damage and disrupted traffic for hours.

The Ring of Fire continued with increased activity, volcanoes and mud volcanoes that had been dormant for decades awoke with a vengeance, triggering evacuations and disrupting the flights of thousands of travelers. Taiwan, Papua New Guinea and Mexico were also shaken this past month by significant earthquakes as the the cosmic ray grand maximum approaches.

Dry tides are becoming more common all around the world, while mass fish deaths and strandings continue to baffle scientists.

Meteor fireballs put on quite a show again this month, while the reports of unexplained loud "booms" increased all over the world.

SOTT Earth Changes Summary - January 2018: Extreme Weather, Planetary Upheaval, Meteor Fireballs

ecsjan18
Extreme cold is becoming the new normal around the world with multiple snowfall records being broken each winter amid extremely frigid temperatures. This phenomena is already causing significant worldwide impact on crops, basic infrastructure and daily life.

Most of the US continued to experience one of the worst winters in its history this year. As temperatures got a little less cold, snow and ice melt has been causing destructive ice-laden flooding in the Mid and Northwest.

Meanwhile China, Japan and Taiwan also saw record snowfalls and freezing temperatures, and extreme cold was also present in unusual places like Morocco, Tanzania, Turkey, Irán, Israel and Saudi Arabia. And of course, Europe got its fair share as usual.

This month, hurricane like winds wreaked havoc in Europe, the US, Asia and Latin America, and in some cases was accompanied by unprecedented tornadoes.

The Ring of Fire showed increased activity, with volcanoes erupting around the globe along with several earthquakes of significant magnitude. Some researchers link these phenomena to the increased incidence of cosmic rays.

So get your big coats on folks, because with the sun's minimum in its 11 year cycle just around the corner, we may soon have to confront the beginning of a new mini (or 'maxi') ice age.

SOTT Earth Changes Summary - December 2017: Extreme Weather, Planetary Upheaval, Meteor Fireballs

snow ECS
Cold and snow records were broken around the world last month, but the US got the worst of it, with all 50 states having snow on the ground even before winter had officially begun. Northern Mexico and East Asia are experiencing their harshest winter in decades, while some parts of Australia were startled by snow in summer.

Floods continued to wreak havoc in the Philippines and Indonesia, with thousands displaced, while heavy rain in Albania flooded thousands of homes and tore down roads and bridges.

California was scorched by widespread wildfires that burned up to 280,000 acres and destroyed more than 1,000 homes, with the Thomas Fire becoming the largest and most destructive wildfire in California's history. With an 'atmospheric river' and downpours predicted for the 1st week of January 2018, things are looking gloomy for the Sunshine State.

A high level of volcanic activity was seen around the world in December, while a deadly 6.5 earthquake hit the Indonesian island of Java.

Meteors sightings increased in December, with more and more reports of accompanying "mysterious loud booms", very likely the space rocks exploding overhead.

Atmospheric phenomena, including iridescent clouds and "strange lights in the sky," continued to impress people from Sweden to Eastern Russia, but such events are likely evidence of a distinct cooling of the atmosphere, one of many signs of the possible onset of a new ice age.

SOTT Earth Changes Summary - November 2017: Extreme Weather, Planetary Upheaval, Meteor Fireballs

From fireballs to floods to unseasonable snow in both hemispheres of our planet, this past November saw many meteorological records broken.
comet
After an unusually strong X-class solar flare and unusual solar activity back in September - possibly related to a series of powerful earthquakes above 7.0M in New Caledonia and Mexico - last month was marked by three powerful earthquakes that caused widespread damage - in Iraq/Iran, Chile and South Korea. Meanwhile, volcanic activity seems to have reached a seasonal peak (yes, soon we'll have to start talking about 'volcano season').

These increased geological phenomena, and the official predictions of an increase in earthquake activity in 2018 due to the slow-down of Earth's rotation, have left affected people with a feeling of dread.

Droughts also worsened in Portugal and Spain last month, while sheets of rain fell in South America, Australia, and in most parts of Asia. All this at a time when meteorologists are finding themselves having to use the term 'atmospheric phenomena' because 'rainfall' just doesn't cut it anymore.

Trumpet sounds and portents in the sky were seen as harbingers of changing times in the past, from the social and political arena, to significant cosmic events. So fasten your seat belts folks, because it seems that things are going to get rough.

SOTT Earth Changes Summary - September 2017: Extreme Weather, Planetary Upheaval, Meteor Fireballs

ECS September screen shot
September was yet another extremely violent month from an 'earth changes' point of view.

A series of class X solar flares seem to have been the harbingers of unprecedented natural phenomena, in both quantity and intensity.

Two historic earthquakes hit Mexico causing more than 300 deaths, destroying hundreds of buildings and damaging thousands more.

The 2017 Atlantic hurricane season is among the top 10 most active in history, and it's not over yet. So far, the real shocker was three hurricanes at the same time, two of which, Irma & Maria, tore a swath of destruction through the Caribbean and into central Florida.

Unseasonable snow and cold temperatures also hit Northern Europe and the US northern States this September, while oversized hail, heavy rains and flooding also pounded Europe, South Asia and Africa.

SOTT Earth Changes Summary - August 2017: Extreme Weather, Planetary Upheaval, Meteor Fireballs

waterspout black sea August 2017
With much of the Western world and media focusing on hurricanes Harvey and Irma in the last week or two, you could be forgiven for thinking that the rest of the world was relatively peaceful, from a climate point of view. Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, hurricane Harvey came at the end of yet another month of seriously destructive and 'anomalous' weather around the world, some of which made Harvey look relatively benign.

SOTT Earth Changes Summary - July 2017: Extreme Weather, Planetary Upheaval, Meteor Fireballs

ECS July Tornado Austria airport
As colder summer temperatures and unseasonable snowfall start to become the new normal around the world, heavy rain and floods are breaking long-held records causing widespread damage to property and crops and the death of an increasing number of people.

As more and more animals are killed by lightning strikes, plasma events, 'red sprites' and noctilucent clouds are also on the increase along with meteor/fireballs sightings.

This July, wildfires scorched California, British Columbia, Croatia, Montenegro, Indonesia, France and Portugal, floods ravaged areas from India to Indonesia, and fierce hailstorms hit just about every continent.

It was one more wild month on planet earth. But how many are paying attention?

SOTT Earth Changes Summary - June 2017: Extreme Weather, Planetary Upheaval, Meteor Fireballs

ECS June screen shot
June was a real 'doozie' in terms of climate chaos around the world. Literal 'sheets of rain' were recorded in many different areas causing widespread flooding and deadly mudslides, along with impressive 'down bursts', seriously large hail and unseasonable snow. Tornadoes and waterspouts also made their presence felt this month from China and Russia to New Jersey. And of course, the increasingly common fireballs, sinkholes and wildfires also featured.

SOTT Earth Changes Summary - May 2017: Extreme Weather, Planetary Upheaval, Meteor Fireballs

popacetl
In case you haven't noticed yet, the environment on our planet seems to be mirroring the extreme levels of chaos and violence playing out at the human level. This May, massive (and often 'unprecedented') flooding once again caused widespread devastation across the planet.

Extremely late snow fall from the USA to Europe to China caused serious problems for people and the food on which they rely, as did large and damaging hail storms.

Tornados, wildfires, water spouts, whirlpools, dust storms, volcanic eruptions, weird animal activity, and much more, made this May just one more extremely alarming month on planet earth.
