There have been close to a record number of earthquakes over 7.0 magnitude. This one just
slips under the threshold. It occurred to me that there might be a vested interest in downplaying
intensities.
I have also noticed that it is pretty common for Magnitudes to be revised downward. Is this a
deficiency in the modeling, or deliberate disinformation?
I notice that the earthquake near Taiwan is reported at considerably higher intensity by local recording than
USGS.
