The Omaha World-Herald reported that the incident occurred around 2 p.m. yesterday outside a security building on the grounds of the Ft. Calhoun nuclear plant, but that it was not near any of the reactors.
The worker was reportedly refueling a portable pump when it caught fire. He was airlifted to a nearby hospital with burns on his arms and face.
The pump he was refueling was to be used for removing water that seeps under the sandbag perimeter around the security building, which is currently helping hold out flood water from the Missouri river, which has crested well above the elevation of the plant.
Authorities continue to insist the situation at the Ft. Calhoun nuclear plant is safe, despite flood waters. It is not currently in operation.
