A British Foreign Office spokesman said Britain rejects any idea to pass control of its two military bases in Cyprus to the European Union.

The spokesman was commenting on reports that the European Parliament is saying British and French Bases around the world should be handed to the European Union for its peace operations.

He said that this was an academic paper and not a report by any committee or any other EU body, as it was wrongly indicated.

The United Kingdom, he added, would not hand over the British Bases in Cyprus to the European Union or anybody else.
