Russia sees absolutely no sense in the EU's current policy of forgoing Russian energy supplies, particularly gas, President Vladimir Putin told the Russian Energy Week forum on Wednesday. He added that "the modern political system in [the West] obviously sometimes brings not the smartest people to the top."

Speaking about the issue of Russian gas exports to Europe, he pointed to what he called a lack of common sense in some European capitals.

"There is no sensible explanation to why some European economies, including Germany's, should behave like this," the president said, referring to the situation in the European energy market. He called it "surprising" that European nations did not demand that Kiev reopen one of the Russian gas pipelines going through Ukraine after it was shut down.

Ukraine halted Russian gas transit along one of the routes running through its territory back in May, arguing that it had lost control over one of the gas compressor stations. The station in question is located in the Lugansk People's Republic, which voted to join Russia last year.

Israeli minister says no water or power for Gaza residents

Fuel will also be cut off until hostages are released, Energy Minister Israel Katz has warned

Israel's siege of Gaza will not be lifted unless Hamas releases all the hostages it has captured, Energy Minister Israel Katz announced on Thursday. His statement came after Israeli authorities cut off water, fuel and electricity to the Palestinian enclave following a surprise attack by Hamas militants on Saturday.

"Humanitarian aid to Gaza? No electrical switch will be turned on, no water pump will be opened and no fuel truck will enter until the Israeli abductees are returned home," Katz wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

In a previous post, the minister stated that Israel had for years supplied Gaza with electricity, water and fuel. "Instead of saying thank you, they sent thousands of human animals to slaughter, murder, rape and kidnap babies, women and the elderly," Katz said, adding that Israel will continue to tighten the siege of Gaza "until the Hamas threat to Israel and the world is removed."

Comment: So, no way to put out fires caused by IDF carpet bombing. No way to clean wounds at a hospital, nor the light to do it by. No way to cook food, but it doesn't matter because there will be no food to cook.

Demonic.

How they might be conducting a genius-level psy-op:

In the face of rapidly declining public support for US military intervention and imperialism in the Middle East, sometime in the 2010s, the establishment decided to flip a "switcheroo" to destroy the reputation of the traditional "anti-war Left".

Practically overnight, the mainstream narrative regarding Muslim immigrants went from "Islamic terrorists" to "victims of Islamophobia and xenophobia."

White House backtracks on Biden's 'beheaded babies' claim

US officials have backtracked after President Joe Biden claimed to have seen "confirmed pictures" of Palestinian militants "beheading children" in Israel, explaining that he had seen no images and was merely relaying claims from the Israeli government and media reports.

While Biden declared in an address to Jewish leaders on Wednesday that he was shocked by photos depicting brutal acts against Israeli babies, a White House spokesperson later told the Washington Post that officials were unaware of the pictures the president claimed to have seen. They added that they had no independent confirmation of reports that children were beheaded during a Hamas attack on Israel last weekend, despite Biden's claim of having seen "confirmed" images.

"The president based his comments about the alleged atrocities on the claims from [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu's spokesman and media reports from Israel," the Post reported, citing the White House.

'Near zero' EU economic growth easily explained - Putin

The economic hardships of EU member states primarily come down to Brussels' decision to forgo Russian oil and gas imports, President Vladimir Putin told the 'Russian Energy Week' forum on Wednesday. The bloc has only foiled its economic growth while Moscow is reorienting itself to the Asian markets, he added.

EU nations are "currently overpaying for their oil and gas supplies," Putin said, adding that the EU's economy is demonstrating "nearly zero" growth as a result. In September, the European Commission said in its economic forecast that the bloc's economic growth had been revised to just 0.8% in 2023 from the initially projected 1%. The growth forecast for 2024 was also changed from 1.7% to 1.4%.

Russia's energy products had "ensured economic and social well-being of the European Union for many years," the president said, adding that the EU nations had decided to just forgo them by introducing restrictions on bank services and price ceilings on Russia's oil and gas.

A top US legislator gave further credence Wednesday to assertions that Cairo had warned Israel of looming major violence by Hamas, three days before Gaza's ruling terror group caught Israeli forces off-guard and massacred over 1,200 Israelis.

Republican Michael McCaul, chairman of the powerful US House Foreign Affairs Committee, said: "We know that Egypt... warned the Israelis three days prior that an event like this could happen."

Speaking to reporters following a closed-door intelligence briefing for lawmakers on the crisis, he added: "I don't want to get too much into classified [details], but a warning was given.

"I think the question was at what level."

Israel rubbishes claims of Russian involvement in Hamas attack

Israel does not believe that Russia was in any way connected to last week's Hamas attack, the country's ambassador to Moscow, Alexander Ben Zvi, said in an interview with Kommersant on Wednesday.

Ben Zvi was asked to comment on allegations against Russia on social media and by a number of news outlets that it may have been involved in the attack and that the situation in Gaza is beneficial to Moscow, as it supposedly draws Washington's attention away from Ukraine.

The ambassador responded by calling the allegations "complete nonsense."

"Firstly, we do not believe that Russia was involved in this in any way," Ben Zvi said. "Secondly, those who believe that the United States will have to redirect some serious resources to Israel are greatly mistaken," he added, noting that the US is a strategic partner and will continue to supply it with weapons.

"Russia understands this. So all the aforementioned claims are pure conspiracy," the ambassador said.

Britain's SAS faced allegations that it shot dead nine Afghans while they were sleeping and engaged in a policy of "executing Afghan males of fighting age" between 2010 and 2013, on the first day of a public inquiry into the killing of 80 civilians in Afghanistan.

Oliver Glasgow KC, the counsel to the inquiry, focused on seven deadly operations in Helmand province in southern Afghanistan, including one in February 2011 where only three AK47 assault rifles were recovered after the nine had been killed.

"The central allegation at the heart of this inquiry is stark," Glasgow told the high court. Raids on family compounds, intended to target Taliban commanders, "were abused by elements within UK special forces".

Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed Tuesday the ongoing, violent conflict between Israel and Hamas following a series of terrorist attacks perpetrated by Hamas.

Putin made the remarks in a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al Sudani, according to The Moscow Times. "I think many will agree with me that this is a clear example of the failure of U.S. policy in the Middle East," Putin said at the meeting.

More than 2,100 people have been killed on both sides in the war since Hamas launched its attack against Israel on Saturday, leading to retaliatory action from Israeli forces. Thousands more have been wounded, and many others have been taken hostage by Hamas and raped, tortured and murdered.

Iran's supreme leader strongly denies role in Hamas attack

The story: Iran's supreme leader has strongly rejected any involvement in the Hamas movement's surprise attack on Israel. The public maneuvering, which involved Ayatollah Ali Khamenei strikingly repeating his rejection of an Iranian role three times in a 90-second span, follows controversial claims in US media that Tehran helped plan the Oct. 7 blitz.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a high-ranking Iranian source told Amwaj.media that Khamenei's remarks — his first since the Hamas offensive — may have been sparked by "him seeing the direction of the Israeli public diplomacy campaign." Rejecting concerns of an impending Israeli attack as Khamenei's underlying motive, the source said the supreme leader's comments are "pre-emptive" as opposed to reactive.

Addressing the rare decision by Khamenei to be so vocal in his rejection of an Iranian role in the Palestinian blitz, a second senior source in Tehran told Amwaj.media, "Give me one reason why he should do otherwise." Also speaking anonymously given the sensitivity of the matter, he continued, "Why should one give them the perfect justification they need for an attack?" At the same time, the source dismissed the notion that being so explicit in rejecting a role in the Hamas attack indicates a sense of weakness on the part of Iran.
