Russia is giving up on the US political elite

Medvedev and Putin
Following passage of sanctions law angry statements from senior officials in Russia suggest Moscow has finally lost patience with the US and the Trump administration.

Though the new sanctions law which has just been passed by the US Congress will have little actual impact on the Russian economy, no one should be in any doubt about Russian anger on this issue.

That anger has expressed itself in a number of ways.

Firstly there are the stiff comments from President Putin himself made on the eve of the passage of the new sanctions law:
We have not seen the final version yet and we do not have a final opinion on this matter. But we see that for a long period of time, there have been ongoing attempts to provoke us - many Russian diplomats were expelled with no explanation of the reason and diplomatic property was seized, which is beyond comprehension as it violates fundamental norms of international law regarding diplomatic relations. The sanctions are absolutely illegal from the perspective of international law and they violate the principles of international trade and World Trade Organization rules. As you know, we are being very restrained and patient, but at some point we will have to respond. We cannot tolerate this loutish behavior towards our country forever. But how we respond will depend on the final version of the bill that is being debated in the US Senate.

Best of the Web: Film exposing conspiracy of financiers and mainstream media to frame Russia for their own evils banned in West

Andrei Nekrasov magnitsky documentary
Film director Andrei Nekrasov, who produced “The Magnitsky Act: Behind the Scenes.”
As Congress still swoons over the anti-Kremlin Magnitsky narrative, Western political and media leaders refuse to let their people view a documentary that debunks the fable.

Why is the U.S. mainstream media so frightened of a documentary that debunks the beloved story of how "lawyer" Sergei Magnitsky uncovered massive Russian government corruption and died as a result? If the documentary is as flawed as its critics claim, why won't they let it be shown to the American public, then lay out its supposed errors, and use it as a case study of how such fakery works?

Instead we - in the land of the free, home of the brave - are protected from seeing this documentary produced by filmmaker Andrei Nekrasov who was known as a fierce critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin but who in this instance found the West's widely accepted Magnitsky storyline to be a fraud.

Instead, last week, Senate Judiciary Committee members sat in rapt attention as hedge-fund operator William Browder wowed them with a reprise of his Magnitsky tale and suggested that people who have challenged the narrative and those who dared air the documentary one time at Washington's Newseum last year should be prosecuted for violating the Foreign Agent Registration Act (FARA).

Robert Mueller impanels Grand Jury in Russia probe, Donald Trump Jr. subpoenaed

Update: Reuters adds that Grand Jury subpoenas have been issued in connection with the June 2016 meeting between Donald Trump Jr., Russian Lawyer and others.

Stocks slumped, and VIX spiked following news that Special Counsel Robert Mueller has impaneled a grand jury in Washington to investigate Russia's interference in the 2016 elections, the WSJ reports, adding that "this is a sign that his inquiry is growing in intensity and entering a new phase." The grand jury is said to have begun work in recent weeks, suggesting Mueller's inquiry is ramping up and "that it will likely continue for months."

Some details: "grand juries are powerful investigative tools that allow prosecutors to subpoena documents, put witnesses under oath and seek indictments, if there is evidence of a crime. Legal experts said that the decision by Mr. Mueller to impanel a grand jury suggests he believes he will need to subpoena records and take testimony from witnesses."
"This is yet a further sign that there is a long-term, large-scale series of prosecutions being contemplated and being pursued by the special counsel," said Stephen I. Vladeck, a law professor at the University of Texas. "If there was already a grand jury in Alexandria looking at Flynn, there would be no need to reinvent the wheel for the same guy. This suggests that the investigation is bigger and wider than Flynn, perhaps substantially so."

China's missile forces should make US war planners think twice

China's conventional missile capabilities pose a serious challenge to US dominance in the Pacific region, RIA Novosti contributor Ilya Plekhanov noted, citing a 2017 Center for a New American Security (CNAS) report. According to the journalist, Washington has no alternative but to take this into consideration.

China's non-nuclear weapons allow the People's Republic to defeat American and allied ballistic missile defenses in the Pacific region, RIA Novosti contributor Ilya Plekhanov noted, citing a 2017 CNAS report.

"For a long time, it was believed... that any military confrontation between superpowers will immediately result in the exchange of nuclear strikes. But now the opinion of experts has changed," Plekhanov wrote.

"Powerful high-precision weapons' strikes against military facilities are not inferior in destructive power to low-power nuclear charges. The effect is the same. Thus there is no reason for the immediate use of nuclear weapons," he pointed out.

If Tony Blair can't be prosecuted for war crimes then nobody can

If Tony Blair cannot be prosecuted for war crimes then nobody can. If a man who played a key role in waging a war that was directly responsible for the deaths of up to one million people cannot be made to face justice then there is no justice - or at least not for its poor victims in a world owned and controlled by the rich.

Blair's deeds are now so well known it almost seems futile repeating them. However lest anyone make the mistake of associating them with the past, it is important to emphasize that people in Iraq, the entire Middle East, and the wider world continue to live with the consequences of those deeds today.

The UK High Court's decision to block the attempt by former Iraqi Army General Abdul Wahed Shannan Al Rabbat to introduce proceedings against Blair for the crime of aggression by invading Iraq in 2003 brings the UK legal system into disrepute. In claiming that there was "no prospect of the case succeeding," the three High Court judges responsible for the decision relied on the argument that the "crime of aggression" is not one recognized in English law.

'Shameful': Foreign Press Association files legal petition over 'violent' Israeli treatment

israeli soldiers attack journalists
The Foreign Press Association (FPA) has submitted a petition to Israel's High Court of Justice, claiming authorities used violent tactics against journalists trying to cover unrest in Jerusalem. It called the government "shameful" for "standing by silently."

The petition, filed Wednesday, demands that police cease their blocking of local and foreign journalists from the Temple Mount, the site of recent unrest following Israel's decision to install security cameras there last month.

It goes on to claim that barring reporters from the site was done without any legal authority, and that journalists were often targeted with verbal and sometimes physical abuse by Israeli forces, the Times of Israel reported.

The document references a specific case in which a Reuters cameraman was hospitalized with a concussion after allegedly being assaulted by an Israeli officer.

Piling higher and deeper: Email trove from Huma Abedin's personal account provide further evidence of Clinton pay-for-play scandal

© Justin Sullivan/Getty ImagesDemocratic presidential candidate former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (L) talks with aide Huma Abedin (R) before speaking at a neighborhood block party on April 17, 2016 in the Brooklyn borough of New York City. With two days to go before the New York presidential primary, Hillary Clinton is campaigning in and around New York City.
Former Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin used her personal email account to transmit classified documents and coordinate favors for Clinton donors, according to emails obtained by Judicial Watch Wednesday.

Judicial Watch obtained the documents as part of a lawsuit filed after the State Department failed to respond to a March 2015 Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request. The newly-obtained documents include 91 Clinton email exchanges that were not turned over to the State Department, contradicting Clinton's claim that, "as far as she knew," she had turned over all of her government emails.

The emails reveal multiple instances in which Abedin used her personal account to send and receive classified documents as well as arrange personal favors for Clinton donors and political allies on former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's behalf.

"Pay to play, classified information mishandling, influence peddling, cover ups-these new emails show why the criminal investigation into Hillary Clinton's conduct must be resumed," Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said in a statement.

Comment: Huma is Killary's mini-me. She's never going to take responsibility for her part in running the Clinton's criminal machine. Judge Napolitano on the emails:
What is new is that there are new emails that were obtained by a lawsuit filed by Judicial Watch which the State Department in the Obama administration and the Trump administration declined to turn over... We are the only ones that are talking about this.

...Is this enough to cause Jeff Sessions to present the evidence against her for the misuse of state secrets to a grand jury? Absolutely! Do they need a special prosecutor? No they don't!... Actually he (AG Sessions) doesn't have to investigate. He has a truckload of materials that the FBI accumulated under Jim Comey which paints a picture of a mountain-load of her guilt.

Imagine what would happen if China decided to impose economic sanctions on USA?

Made in China tag
In June, Washington threatened Beijing with a sanctions regime, in response to China's increased bilateral commodity trade with North Korea. Initially, the US sanctions were not intended to be against the Chinese government: selected Chinese banks and trading companies involved in the financing of China-DPRK commodity trade would be potential targets of US reprisals.
Having lost patience with China, the Trump administration is studying new steps to starve North Korea of cash for its nuclear program, including an option that would infuriate Beijing: sanctions on Chinese companies that help keep the North's economy afloat.
According to Chinese sources, China's trade with the DPRK increased by 37.4 percent in the first quarter of 2017, in relation to the same period in 2016. China's exports increased by 54.5 percent, with imports from the DPRK experiencing an 18.4 percent increase.

The insinuation was crystal clear: curtail your trade with North Korea, or else...

Coupled with the aggressive legislative sanctions "package" recently adopted by the US Congress directed against Russia, Iran and North Korea, Washington now threatens China in no uncertain terms.

Donald Trump didn't mince his words during a call with Australian PM Malcolm Turnbull earlier this year, telling the him that their conversation was "ridiculous" while comparing it to the "pleasant" talk he had with Vladimir Putin, according to a leaked transcript.

Details of the transcript, obtained by the Washington Post, include information on the call between the two leaders on January 28.

While speaking to Turnbull about a deal for the US to take in refugees from Australia - which was agreed by the Obama administration - Trump had no problem expressing his true feelings on the matter.

"I have had it," Trump told Turnbull. "I have been making these calls all day, and this is the most unpleasant call all day."

Hackensack University Medical Center and Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey are recruiting volunteers to have an RFID device implanted under the skin.

The chips, made by VeriChip Corporation, will contain a 16-digit identifying number that can be used to bring up medical and family contact information stored electronically in a database.

The chips will be tested in patients with chronic conditions who are more likely to need care in hospital emergency rooms.
