Another explosion at a port in Turkey: Gas pressure at waste disposal area blamed - Germany's largest scrap yard at Duisburg port also catches fire

At least one was reported killed and another was injured in an explosion caused by gas pressure in a ship's waste warehouse in the Tuzla shipyards region, Türkiye, Istanbul Governor's Office confirmed on Monday, APA's Istanbul correspondent reports.

The office added that the explosion took place at around 10.30 am. local time. Following the blast, rescue workers and firefighters rush to the scene of the explosion to stop the blaze.

In Germany, a scrap metal dump, which is the largest in the country, caught fire. Bild newspaper writes about it. Eyewitnesses are posting video of the fire on social media.

According to the publication, we are talking about a landfill in the river port of Duisburg. About a thousand tons of scrap metal are stored there.

Rescue services said that the concentration of harmful substances in the air is not exceeded. Nevertheless, residents of nearby areas were still advised to tightly close windows and doors.

Currently, 250 firefighters are engaged in extinguishing the fire. According to experts, it will be possible to eliminate the fire not earlier than August 11.
