The community of Omatando village in the Oshana Region was caught by surprise after mysterious wild animals invaded a kraal of Dr Ben Mulongeni and killed five of his goats at the weekend.

Members of the Mulongeni family told Nampa that the mysterious animals, believed to be two as per their tracks, invaded the kraal at about 02h00 on Saturday morning. According to them, the animals killed the five goats by breaking their necks and sucking their blood without eating the carcasses.

There were six goats in the kraal, and only one of them survived.

"We woke up after hearing the goats making noise and the animals fled the scene only after we started beating a drum inside the homestead," members of Mulongeni family said.

The family of Mulongeni, the former Director General of the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) and now Director of Planning with the Khomas Regional Council, informed the Namibian Police immediately, but Police officers only arrived at sunrise.

A few years ago two other families had a similar experience in the Oshigambo Constituency of the Oshikoto Region.

Some villagers suspected witchcraft, while others believed the livestock killings were just the work of wild animals that had escaped from the Etosha National Park.
