High Strangeness
The image, captured in April 2016 by an intelligence-reconnaissance plane, was included in a classified briefing video on UFOs shown to multiple US government agencies.
The briefing video describes it as a 'short clip of an unidentified flying orb that appears to have a metallic shine on its surface', and shows the strange object flying over the city of Mosul in northern Iraq with the background of the shot showing the streets below.
It is the first publicly revealed image from the US government's ongoing UFO investigation showing an unidentified craft over a conflict zone.
A UFO flying around where the US military is operating has sparked security and safety concerns at the Department of Defense, with military officials worried it could endanger pilots and ground troops.
According to the report, the Pentagon office responsible for tracking and studying the sightings has preliminarily identified 163 of the reports as "balloon or balloon-entities." A handful of other reports have been attributed to drones, birds, weather events or airborne debris like plastic bags.
But "initial characterization does not mean positively resolved or unidentified," the report cautioned. And the remaining 171 reported sightings of UAPs or UFOs continue to be unexplained by the US government.
Unlike what is portrayed in television and movies, the government has not found evidence of UFOs — or unidentified flying objects — that are extraterrestrial in nature. However, the government is expanding efforts to collect data on objects it still can't explain.
According to a media roundtable held last month, the Defense Department's All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office is tracking and analyzing unidentified anomalous phenomena, or UAP — the term is an updated version of UFO and the previous version of UAP, or unidentified aerial phenomena, to reflect unidentified phenomena not just in the air, but also on the ground and in sea and space — that pose a threat.
"Unidentified objects in the skies, sea and space pose potential threats to safety and security, particularly for operational personnel," AARO Director Sean Kirkpatrick said. "AARO is leading a focused effort to better characterize, understand and attribute these objects and is employing the highest scientific and analytic standards."
As noted at the roundtable, AARO — which was provided for in the 2022 National Defense Authorization Act, established in July and replaced the former Navy-led Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force — is working with other agencies to improve its data collection on UAPs. Agency partners include military services, the intelligence community, the Energy Department, NASA, the Federal Aviation Administration, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and others.

A salon owner identified only as Kimberly, 52, shared videos of the phenomenon with DailyMail.com after she witnessed strange bright lights flashing over the night skies while driving on a rural road in West Bend, Wisconsin the night of December 1, 2022
The footage from December 1 shows bright white lights zipping across cloudy skies over the rolling farmland near West Bend and Fredonia, Wisconsin.
Moving at incredible speeds and appearing to come from above the thin cloud layer that night, the phenomena left witnesses believing they had seen a true UFO display.
Unlike most incidents from a single blurry, shaky camera, this case has at least two witnesses who did not know each other and filmed the lights at the same time from different locations, according to their video metadata.
US nuclear submarine 'buzzed by underwater object' traveling 'faster than speed of sound': Scientist
In a YouTube interview with UFO researcher Chris Leto, scientist Bob McGwier said that the sub was "running deep and fast" when it was passed at extremely high speed by an object. According to McGwier, the encounter was confirmed by a member of the crew who was shocked at the speed of the Unidentified Submerged Object (USO), Daily Star reports.
"We were under way and all of a sudden I hear the sound. It's really strange because it's clear that what is going on is something is whizzing by us and it's moving so fast I just can't believe it," said McGwier, adding "This thing blew by us like we were standing still."
The mystery is just one of many to occur in a stretch of Atlantic Ocean reaching from the Florida Coast southeast to Puerto Rico and north to Bermuda, known colloquially as the Bermuda Triangle.

Knapp tweeted Thursday night that Joerg Arnu, owner of the website Dreamland Resort: Area 51, was raided by the FBI in a "no-knock warrant" at his home in Rachel, Nevada.
"FBI agents came down hard on the operator of a popular website devoted to all things Area 51--its programs, lore, and legacy. More than a dozen agents served a no-knock warrant on the Rachel, NV home of Joerg Arnu, owner of http://dreamlandresort.com..."
Aliens could get in touch tomorrow and we must know what to say to them, scientists have warned, as they launched a new research hub to prepare humanity for first contact.
The University of St Andrews has joined forces with the UK SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) Research Network to establish protocols and procedures if aliens are found.
The team warn that although there are measures in place for dealing with threats posed by asteroid impacts, there is no agreed response if a radio signal were picked up from another intelligent lifeform.
The Seti Post-Detection Hub will bring together experts from around the world to decide how to decipher methods, enact space law and anticipate societal impacts.
Dr John Elliott, honorary research fellow in the School of Computer Science at St Andrews and coordinator of the Hub, said: "Will we ever get a message from ET? We don't know. We also don't know when this is going to happen.
"But we do know that we cannot afford to be ill prepared - scientifically, socially, and politically rudderless - for an event that could turn into reality as early as tomorrow and which we cannot afford to mismanage.
"We need to coordinate our expert knowledge not only for assessing the evidence but also for considering the human social response, as our understanding progresses and what we know and what we don't know is communicated. And the time to do this is now."

In the film, Carlos De Sousa describes seeing the UFO rocking and jerking around in the sky before crashing to the ground.
Seven days later, two sisters aged 14 and 16, and a 21-year-old friend spot a tiny, frightened alien with big red eyes, crouching by a wall. They run screaming back to their mother.
The Brazilian police and military capture at least two aliens, one of which scratches an officer, infecting and ultimately killing him, before dying along with its extraterrestrial comrades. The US Air Force confiscates the alien bodies and takes them to an unknown location. A vast cover-up by the Brazilian military, enforced with death threats, lasts for 26 years.
But if it's all made up, it is one of the greatest works of science fiction in history. Most everyone who hears the witnesses tell their story a quarter century later is convinced they are telling the truth.
