The prefecture government said heavy rain began to fall in areas including Le Gosier, Les Abymes and Pointe-à-Pitre during the early hours of 30 April 2022. By the evening over 300 mm of rain had fallen, which is more than during Hurricane Maria in 2017 according to the prefecture government. Météo-France reported 312 mm of rain in Leroux, Le Gosier; 312 mm in Le Raizet, Pointe-à-Pitre and 214 in Les Abymes.
Around 80 firefighters were mobilized and carried out dozens of interventions. Several roads were flooded, causing traffic chaos and forcing many drivers to abandon their vehicles.
Houses and other infrastructure have also been damaged owing to the inclement weather condition, he said.
The northeastern state has been receiving heavy rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms since the beginning of April, leaving a trail of destruction, the official said.

Preliminary overnight mapping imagery indicated that the fire that has burned at least 166 homes grew in size from 103 square miles on Friday to 152 square miles by early Saturday, officials said.
Ash carried seven miles through the air fell on Las Vegas, population about 13,000, and firefighters were trying to prevent the blaze from getting closer, said Mike Johnson, a spokesperson for the fire management team.
Calmer winds on Saturday were aiding the firefighting effort after gusts accelerated the fire's advance to a point on Friday when "we were watching the fire march about a mile every hour", said Jayson Coil, a fire operations official.

Officials said the suspected twister moved though parts of south-east Wichita and Andover on Friday evening. The Andover fire chief, Chad Russell, said early on Saturday morning 50 to 100 buildings were damaged in Sedgwick county, though it was not immediately known how many buildings were damaged in Andover.
Russell said in some neighborhoods homes "were completely blown away".
Officials said only a few injuries had been reported. In Sedgwick county, three people were injured, including one woman who suffered serious injuries.
The Franklin County sheriff's office identified the employee as Jacqueline Summer Beard. She was 58 and lived in Muscle Shoals.
Deputies found her body while investigating on Crumpton Road in a rural area south of the northwest Alabama town of Red Bay, near the Mississippi state line.
Beard was as an environmentalist supervisor in Franklin, Marion and Winston counties, according to the ADPH. She worked for the health department for almost 17 years.
Locals said 39 persons were injured when a pack of stray dogs attacked them in Dalgate area of Srinagar city on Friday evening.
"The injured included 17 tourists and 22 locals. All the injured were shifted to hospital," local eye witnesses said.
Kawaljeet Singh, Medical Superintendent at Srinagar's SMHS hospital confirmed that 39 people with dog bites reported at the hospital.
Dalgate area on the bank of the Dal Lake is the hub of tourist activity in Srinagar city.
People have appealed the authorities to act against the increasing stray dog menace in the city.

The first week-or-so of May will see another unusually frigid mass of polar cold sweep Southeast Asia.
The cold air is forecast to descend as far south as Vietnam, Laos and Thailand.
After recently breaking its low temperature record for April, Laos is expected to bust its record low for May, too.
Police say they responded to the 800 block of North Vine Street at about 12:34 a.m., where they found the 66-year-old man bleeding from severe wounds and not breathing. Paramedics on scene later declared the man dead.
Officials say it was later determined that at 6 p.m. Monday, the victim was trying to break up two dogs fighting when one of the dogs attacked him and bit him several times, causing multiple injuries. The man had contacted his family about the injuries but had told them that he had bandaged himself and was okay. Later, when the family of the victim returned home at midnight, they called 911 as they found him unresponsive.
