British judge threatens to break the UK's wall of secrecy around Assange's persecution

After nine years of legal battles, a British judge has finally challenged the wall of secrecy erected by British and Swedish authorities around the legal abuse of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange.

Judge Foss, sitting at the London First-Tier Tribunal, has ruled that the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) must explain how it came to destroy key files that would have shed light on why it pursued Assange for 14 years. The CPS appears to have done so in breach of its own procedures.

Assange was finally released from Belmarsh high-security prison last year in a plea deal after Washington had spent years seeking his extradition for publishing documents revealing US and UK war crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Retail giant joins Walmart, Ford, Meta and a slew of other firms to roll back diversity programs

Amazon is scaling back on some of its diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI)programs, becoming the latest major corporation to make cuts to such initiatives that critics have deemed "woke."

In a message to employees last month, Amazon human resources executive Candi Castleberry announced updates to the company's representation and inclusion efforts, and said the e-commerce giant would be making some changes after spending the past few years "evaluat[ing] their effectiveness."

"We worked to unify employee groups together under one umbrella, and build programs that are open to all," the memo, obtained by FOX Business reads. "Rather than have individual groups build programs, we are focusing on programs with proven outcomes - and we also aim to foster a more truly inclusive culture."

Comment: Starbuck is a heavy-hitter in the fight to ban woke policies. His ability to weaponize social media has CEOs quaking in their boots, often provoking change even without having to start a Twitter expose. Woe to Jeff Bezos if he intends to duck the issue :

The companies are reportedly dropping commitments to consider race and gender in their hiring process.

Meta and Amazon have ended their diversity, equity, and inclusions (DEI) programs, citing political considerations and perceptions of preferential treatment, multiple news outlets reported on Friday, citing internal documents. Meta owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

Reuters cited a December memo from Amazon saying that the retail giant was "winding down outdated programs and materials" related to representation and inclusion, with the goal of completing the process by the end of 2024.

A social media video reveals a man who identifies himself to be the ex-Labour MP Ivor Caplin being handcuffed by police.

Sussex Police have confirmed they have arrested a 66-year-old man on suspicion of engaging in sexual communication with a child.

In May last year, Caplin was suspended because of undisclosed "serious allegations", which he denies.

Video footage of the arrest has been posted online and a man wearing a black trench coat and a red cap can be seen, being held by police officers.

Police then appear to take the arrested man's phone and put it inside an evidence bag.

Facebook initially balked at censoring satirical memes about Covid-19 vaccines until US government officials screamed, cursed, and threatened them into doing so, Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of the platform's parent company Meta, has said.

Speaking on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast on Friday, Zuckerberg addressed his company's censorship both during the 2020 election and afterward, seemingly blaming it on government pressure.

"I don't think that the pushing for social media companies to censor stuff was legal," Zuckerberg told Rogan. "At some level, I do think that having people in the administration calling up the guys on our team and yelling at them and cursing and threatening repercussions if we don't take down things that are true... it's pretty bad."

According to Zuckerberg, the ban on censorship in the US Constitution does not apply to "content moderation" by private companies, "but the First Amendment does apply to government, that's like the whole point."

Comment: Why didn't Zuckerberg speak up in 2016 when Facebook censored Americans during the election? And in 2020 with the Hunter Biden laptop? This is a cynical display by him, motivated by self-interest. He is merely taking the winning side and pretending to be interested in free speech. His record shows that he cares little for the free speech of Americans on his platform.

Hollywood star Mel Gibson and presenter Joe Rogan have claimed that former chief medical adviser Anthony Fauci should face prosecution, as they discussed his influence on the American healthcare system over the years. The popular American podcast host labelled the ex-government official a "monster."

Fauci became the public face of the federal government's response to the Covid-19 pandemic both under President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden. The imposition of restrictive measures and the scientist's reported involvement in suppressing the theory that the virus may have originated from US-funded gain-of-function research in China have made Fauci a controversial figure.

Gibson was a guest on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast on Thursday. Both men wondered how Fauci was "still walking around," or "at least free" after his actions during the pandemic.

The official Palestinian death toll from the Israel-Hamas conflict may be significantly lower than the actual number, a new report has found. The paper was published in The Lancet medical journal on Thursday, the same day Gaza's Health Ministry announced that the death toll from the 15-month conflict exceeded 46,000.

According to the report, the official Palestinian tally in Gaza in the first nine months of the war likely undercounted the number of deaths by around 40%.

The researchers attribute the discrepancy to the collapse of healthcare infrastructure in the besieged enclave and the challenges of accurate record-keeping during the conflict.

The study, conducted by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in collaboration with Yale University, used a statistical method known as capture-recapture analysis to estimate deaths. The approach compares multiple independent data sources to account for unreported fatalities.

"This class action is only the beginning of the people's exercise of power against the violence of the American government," said one plaintiff.

More than 500 California residents on Thursday took the latest legal action against U.S. leaders in an effort to stop the government's support for Israel's assault on Gaza, with taxpayers represented by two Democratic U.S. House members filing a class action lawsuit against the lawmakers for voting in favor of Israeli military aid.

The plaintiffs, who are represented by the law firm Szeto-Wong Law, live in 10 counties in Northern California and are represented by Democratic Reps. Jared Huffman and Mike Thompson.

The specific legal tactic being used by the plaintiffs is "unprecedented," according to the group Taxpayers Against Genocide, and hinges on Huffman and Thompson's votes in favor of the Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act in April.
