Islamic State growing in strength - 1,000-strong Syrian rebel brigade defects

An entire 1,000-strong rebel brigade based in Syria's Idlib province has reportedly defected to the Islamic State group, raising new questions as to whether other factions will rally behind the militant force that has swept through Iraq's west.

The Dawud Brigade, which was based in Sarmin and fell under the umbrella of the anti-government Sham Army, arrived in the northeastern city of Raqqa last weekend, the main headquarters for the Islamic State (IS) - previously known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS/ISIL).

The rebel group arrived in a convoy of over 100 vehicles, including 10 tanks seized from Syrian government forces, McClatchy reported quoting anti-government activists as saying on Tuesday. Syrian journalist Ammar Abu Shahin said that an increasingly complex relationship between anti-government rebel groups prompted Dawun Brigade's leader, Hassan Abboud, to head to Raqqa.

"Frankly speaking, people in the countryside of Idlib are in a real panic about the advancement of the Islamic State," said Shahin.

According to the journalist, who is familiar with the dynamics between pro-Western Syrian rebels and more radical Islamist elements, the decision by the brigade to formally align itself with the Islamic State was "only a change in uniform," suggesting that groups already sympathetic could well identify themselves and also head for its Raqqa headquarters.

Comment: All the hand-wringing over the Islamic State by western powers is just for show. This has been a Western op from the beginning.

The legality of Israel's Operation Protective Edge, which entered its fifth day on Saturday, has been questioned by the UN's humanitarian chief. But Israel's prime minister has said that no international pressure will stop the offensive.

Under international law, Israel must make sure its attacks are proportional, avoid civilian deaths, and identify military versus civilian objects on the ground, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay said on Friday.


Comment: None of which Israel puts even the slightest effort into doing. In fact, she actively does the opposite: responds with disproportionate force, targets civilians to murder, and targets civilian objects and infrastructure.


"We have received deeply disturbing reports that many of the civilian casualties, including of children, occurred as a result of strikes on homes. Such reports raise serious doubt about whether the Israeli strikes have been in accordance with international humanitarian law and international human rights law," Pillay said in a statement.

The Palestinian death toll rose to at least 106 people early Saturday, as Israel continued its airstrikes for the fourth consecutive day, according to Gaza's Health Ministry. At least 75 of those killed are civilians, including 23 children, Reuters quoted medical officials in Gaza as saying.

Meanwhile, there haven't been any casualties in Israel, with only nine civilians injured, Pillay's office said, citing media reports. Earlier, Israeli officials reported that two soldiers had been wounded.

Comment: Vice, Gantz, Netanyahu and the whole bunch do not deserve to be in the positions they have. If there was any justice in the world, they would be rotting in prisons.

Amnesty International: UN must urgently investigate war crimes in Israeli-Gaza conflict

Amnesty International (AI) has urged the UN to urgently mandate an independent international investigation into Israeli airstrikes on Gaza as well as Palestine's indiscriminate shelling of Israel, and hold accountable those responsible for war crimes.

Despite claims by Israel that its operation "Protective Edge", launched June 8, targets Hamas militants, most of more than a hundred Palestinians killed in airstrikes on Gaza are civilians, Amnesty says, adding that at least 24 children and 16 women were among the casualties.

Simultaneously, at least 20 people in Israel have been wounded by rocket attacks from Palestinian territories, according to the human rights watchdog, calling on the UN to set up a "fact-finding mission to Gaza and Israel to investigate violations of international humanitarian law by all parties to the conflict."

"Swift UN action is needed as lives hang in the balance," said Philip Luther, Director of the Middle East and North Africa Program at Amnesty International. "The international community must not repeat previous mistakes, standing by and watching the devastating consequences for civilians of both sides."

Amnesty sees arms embargo on Israel and all Palestinian military groups as a means of preventing the violence escalating further.

While the IDF is ignoring allegations that it targets civilian homes (because it is obvious that they are) IDF spokesman Lt. Col. Peter Lerner said it uses phone calls and "drops empty shells on roofs" - what it calls "roof knocking" - to warn civilians that air strikes are imminent.

Speaking to US media recently, Learner said that "in one case, members of a family returned to a house in Gaza shortly after having been warned to evacuate it and they were caught in the air strike."

Silly Palestinians. I mean, surely 60 seconds is more than enough for anyone to gather the children, grandparents, pack all important items and leave your house and be at a safe distance before a massive bomb blows it to pieces?! Israel has to 'defend itself' in this way after all, and Palestinians should understand that and not be so stupid as to return to their houses after they receive the neighborly warning that its time to leave!

Check out the "empty shell" that the IDF dropped on this Palestinian home a few days ago to warn the civilians inside that their home would be obliterated 60 seconds later.


This is terrorism by ANY definition of the word.

Russia voices protest against Ukraine's attack on a border squad, the Foreign Ministry says. "On July 12, a Russian border squad was come under automatic small arms fire in the Rostov region's Kuibyshev district, in Russia's south. As a result of the attack a car was damaged. Eight bullet holes were found. Luckily, no Russian border guards were injured," the ministry says.

"There is evidence that the car was come under fire from the Ukrainian territory and from the position on Russia's territory that had been earlier prepared," it says. "Russia demands Ukraine stop shelling of the Russian territory and violating the Russian border," the ministry says.
"If such provocations continue, Russia reserves the right to take measures under its legislation aimed at protecting the territory and ensuring security of Russian citizens," it says, reports Itar-Tass.

The White House has officially admitted to an incredibly nefarious campaign - faking vaccination programs across the country while covertly stealing your DNA.

This illegal, immoral, and insane scheme was concocted to profile terrorists as part of our war against the Middle East. These terrorists would then be hunted down with DNA samples and executed.

The New York Times reported in 2011:
"In the months before Osama bin Laden was killed, the Central Intelligence Agency ran a phony vaccination program in Abbottabad, Pakistan, as a ruse to obtain DNA evidence from members of Bin Laden's family thought to be holed up in an expansive compound there."
The CIA recruited a "senior Pakistani doctor to organize the vaccine drive in Abbottabad, even starting the "project" in a poorer part of town to make it look more authentic."

This project reveals that the U.S. government, only under a forced admission, denied 'public health' in order to secretly and illegally assassinate one person.

Millions of people, possibly, were subject to this scheme. It was likely carried out by nurses being trained to draw a small amount of blood after administering a vaccination.

Who knows who lived in the two first-floor apartments above a home for eight disabled adults in a neighbourhood of eastern Gaza.

Perhaps, as a neighbour suggests, one of them was a militant with Islamic Jihad who lived there with his family. But the neighbour says he isn't sure. What is certain is that the occupant was absent in the early hours of Saturday morning when the two Israeli drones "knocked on his roof" - firing warning shots to encourage civilians to vacate the building prior to a strike.

A few minutes later, an Israeli war plane fired a missile into the house. But it didn't detonate on the first floor. Instead, it smashed through to the ground floor where the explosion ripped through the room where five of the disabled residents were sleeping, killing two and injuring the others.

A neighbour found one of the dead, who was missing initially, after he noticed flies buzzing around the place where she was buried. "A body! A body!" the man shouted. Gingerly he lifted the piece of concrete concealing a curly head of hair, face down in the debris.

30 civilians have been killed in overnight shelling on Maryinka, a town near Donetsk, in southeastern Ukraine, by pro-Kiev military forces, according to estimates by self-defense forces.

"30 civilians died as a result of the Ukrainian army's shelling of Maryinka. Rubble cleanup is under way," says the Twitter of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic.

Self-defense commander, Igor Strelkov, confirmed 30 casualties among the civilian population.

"None of the buildings used by self-defense has been damaged. None of us have been killed or injured. The civilians bore the brunt of the attacks," he told journalists.

Earlier a RIA Novosti correspondent on the ground reported 4 civilian casualties in the overnight shelling of Maryinka, a town of 10,000 residents, where self-defense forces are currently stationed. The same source said the town was shelled again on Saturday.

Deputy Prime Minister Andrey Purgin, of the self proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic, said, that overnight "the town was shelled from two flanks: by heavy-caliber weapons from the Mariupol direction and by Grad and Uragan rocket launchers and mortars from near the village of Kurakhovo," Itar-Tass reported.

Missiles have hit apartment blocks. This footage by RT's Ruptly video agency shows damage done to one of the neighborhoods in Maryinka. It features a completely demolished section of the fifth floor of one of the houses.

"There are 2 bodies over here - and 1 more over there. In total, they say, 6 people have been killed," Maryinka resident, Igor, earlier told Ruptly video agency.

Among other town buildings hit in the attack are a cattle feed plant, a milk factory, a former tire plant and water purification station. The town has been left without water.

There's also as yet unconfirmed reports of a destroyed orphanage.

US president Barack H. Obama wrote an exclusive article for Haaretz which was titled 'Peace is the only path to true security for Israel and the Palestinians.' Of course, the title in itself says what many on both sides of the conflict as well as the rest of the world would want, a lasting peace between Israelis and the Palestinians. But Mr. Obama's article is of course one-sided. He starts by saying that the children of Sderot want to grow up without living in fear disregarding how Palestinian families have been living in fear of the Israeli government since 1948:

I've seen what security means to those who live near the Blue Line, to children in Sderot who just want to grow up without fear, to families who've lost their homes and everything they have to Hezbollah's and Hamas's rockets
Since the beginning of Israel's occupation, Palestinians have endured numerous human rights violations. From constant bombing campaigns by the US tax-funded Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), humiliating security checkpoints, kidnappings, sniper attacks and the demonization by Western Media outlets, the Palestinian people have been victims of Israeli oppression. Israel has expanded Jewish settlements on Palestinian lands and has taken control of water resources.

Massacres such as in the one that occurred in the Palestinian Arab village of Deir Yassin in 1948 where over 100 Palestinian men, women and children were murdered by Israeli paramilitary forces formally known as the Irgun Zvai Leumi, a Jewish terrorist organization (Obama's former Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel's father Benjamin, was a member) and Lehi (Fighters for the Freedom of Israel) or the Stern gang. It happened during the civil war that erupted between the Israelis and the Palestinians after the British rule of Palestine had ended.

As attacks by Israeli forces on Gaza continue, the Palestinian people are braced for another hellish experience. Already exhausted by decades of brutal occupation and 'Operation Cast Lead' in 2009, 'Operation Pillar of Cloud' in 2012, and now 'Operation Protective Edge', 1.7 million Palestinians are trapped in the open-air prison of Gaza, from which there is no escape.

To date, over 100 Palestinians have been murdered and over 600 hundred injured in the current round of slaughter, most of them children, women and the elderly.

The cowardly Israelis are using drones to rack up yet more 'collateral damage'. To date no one has been killed by the fireworks aimed at Israeli settlements. Meanwhile, riots have erupted in the West Bank between Palestinians and Israeli soldiers.

Egypt has opened its border with Gaza to allow in the most severely wounded. Israeli has vowed it won't stop until Hamas stops igniting fireworks. Israel has promised more to come, and will respond to Hamas firework "with all the power" at its disposal.
