Just a day after the announcement of Erdogan's apology, Istanbul airport was attacked by a trio of assailants. European nations are lining up with complaints about anti-Russian sanctions. The U.S. is scrambling to retain some control over the war in Syria, this time offering to work with Russia, but with conditions attached.

I called the result wrong, but only because I underestimated the perfidy and duplicity of the conspirators.

Another, more pressing, domestic reason for holding the referendum has revealed itself since the 'result' was announced: to shake Corbyn loose (and Farage perhaps, who quit today because 'we won' - what a fool!).

HFL was also on the wrong side of the Scottish referendum, if I recall.

Just wondering, Niall, if the treatment of Jeremy Corbyn might be an important factor, here. I was surprised to hear that he'd come under pressure. Can't figure out why some people get so hysterical about something they have no control over, and is going to screw them over anyway, not matter which side 'wins'.

It's now apparent that the primary domestic reasoning for holding the referendum was to remove Corbyn. Although the idea has been floating for years, decades even, as a means to 're-establish the balance-of-power' in Europe, Corbyn's election to Leader of the Opposition last year forced this drastic and risky move.

Hi all.

I was just having an early morning beer, I only allow myself a couple or three each day durint the hot summer, and scanning the wonderful and vital internet of things and things to come. I happened, of course, to Sott, my current favorite website, and I was reading the quote, today's quote by Martin Luther King, Jr.....and so I was thinking.....thinking....thinking....

I think we should have an international and highly celebrated, 'Shoot a nigger' day. Only we can't call it, 'shoot' (because that would be violence) and we can't call it 'nigger' (because that would be prejudice)

So how about we call it, 'Independence Day'?

(I don't thank Sott very often, but I will at this time, on this morning. They do less censoring and interfering with peoples' choices (comments and expressions) than most websites, by a fairly substantial margin, in my recent experience with this 'internet'. And this is the only way to go, imo, if the earth is ever to become something other than the completely dysfunctional and hellbound and destructive, merciless place it is now. Carry on everybody, even HFL, it wouldn't be the same without you.)
