Incredible video: man narrowly misses being struck by lightning

Unbelievable. It happened in West Yorkshire in Northern England. I suspect that after it happened, he not only had to replace his car window, but probably had to replace his underwear, too.

Details:
A man cheated death by seconds when a freak lightning bolt sent a tree branch hurtling through the rear of his car. Bernard Williams had just removed his gym bag from the boot during a rainstorm when the bolt hit an adjacent willow tree catapulting a 10-foot long piece of wood across the road. The branch smashed into the car's back window - directly where Bernard had been standing - and ended up in the alleyway next to the house after taking a tail light with it.

CCTV footage taken on the property's security camera shows Bernard arriving back home in torrential rain and then grabbing his gym bag before running towards the front door of the house. But just four seconds after leaving the car there is a massive flash as lighting hits the tree and blows it apart. Jagged pieces of wood flew across the road hitting the car and neighboring houses.

Bernard, 55, initially thought the explosion on Wednesday afternoon was a sonic boom but his wife Alison, who was in her car waiting to pull on the drive, saw how close he came to being killed. "If he had been stood at the car four seconds later he would almost certainly have been killed or maimed," she said.
See how it happened below.

Hurricane Isaac spawns Illinois tornadoes

Heavy rainfall in Springfield, Illinois
Much of New Orleans was still without power Saturday, the handiwork of Hurricane Isaac, the remnants of which triggered tornadoes in Illinois, officials said.

New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu said cleanup of trees and debris was under way in the storm-stricken city, but the lack of power was frustrating.

"Like everyone else, my patience is wearing thin," he said. "This is more than an inconvenience; it continues to be dangerous for everybody."

The (New Orleans) Times-Picayune reported the electric utility Entergy Corp. said only about 40 percent of New Orleanians had power, while the lights were on for about 46 percent of the people in Jefferson Parish about four days after Isaac hit.

The U.S. Department of Energy said more than 15,000 electricity workers from more than 24 states were assessing the damage and working to restore power.

Hurricane Isaac kills seven, cities still underwater after storm hits US

The degree of damage handed out by Isaac has thankfully been but a sliver of what Katrina caused seven years earlier, but the latest storm has managed to be impressively ravaging still. Isaac has so far taken at least seven lives.

Now with the worst of the storm behind the state of Louisiana, residents are returning to their homes - or what's left - and taking inventory of the destruction caused by the Isaac and assessing the devastation.

Hurricane Isaac uncovers 'mystery' Civil War ship

In the latest installment of a spooky pattern of events, Hurricane Isaac uncovered a boat believed to be a Civil War blockade runner on the beaches of Gulf Shores, Ala. Photos of the ship were posted to Facebook by Meyer Vacation Rentals. Gulf Shores is about an hour's drive from Mobile, Ala., to the west and Pensacola, Fla., to the east. The ship was partially uncovered during Hurricane Ivan in 2004, and in 2008 Hurricane Ike uncovered more of the boat.

When Hurricane Isaac swept through the Gulf Coast, making landfall to the west in Louisiana, the 9-12 foot storm surge pushed away more of the sand around the boat. When the water receded, it revealed most of the boat's hull. On its Facebook page, Meyer Vacation Rentals noted the uncanny pattern of events.

"Hmmm ... 2004, 2008, 2012. All hurricanes with names beginning with I. All within a couple of weeks on the calendar," the note read. "While we hope it's the end of the pattern, we must admit it sure is interesting to see it appear!" "That's kind of spooky," Meyer Vacation Rentals spokeswoman Sarah Kuzma told The Daily Caller with a laugh.
