New statistics from the recent Italian election show 75 per cent of the youngest first-time voters - born in 1999 - voted for anti-establishment parties.

The data, which was compiled by Italian polling firm SWG, shows that the vast majority of young first time voters reject the political establishment, Italian poll-tracking website Termometro Politico reports.

The populist 5 Star Movement (M5S), which has promised to implement a universal basic income and be tough on mass migration, received the most votes with close to half, or 43 per cent. Second was the right-wing populist La Lega which garnered 19 per cent of the support of the first-time voters.

The establishment left-wing Democratic Party (PD) came last with young people with a mere 12 per cent of their vote, despite numerous attempts to get the youth vote with a 500 euro "culture bonus" payment scheme.

Sweden is cracking down on schools that do not support gender equality, according to the country's education minister. The initiative is part of the government's overall plan to remove religious influence from schools in general.

Gustav Fridolin said Sunday that he has launched an inquiry into tightening the regulation of independent religious schools, by stopping those who do not support Sweden's "fundamental values."

"The regulatory framework will be tightened," wrote Fridolin for the newspaper, Aftonbladet. "Those who do not support fundamental values around equality and human rights should be stopped from running free schools in Sweden."

The new regulations will ensure that schools will "actively promote equality" and "allow students to develop their skills and interests independently of gender identity," wrote Fridolin. The restrictions are expected to impact muslim schools the most.

A group of ten young asylum seeker men are said to have terrorised a local fair in the German town of Steinfurt by sexually harassing young women, fighting with local teens, and threatening ride owners.

Most of the incidents occurred at or around a bumper car ride that was set up for the town fair. In one incident at around 6:30 pm, a 22-year-old migrant molested a young girl on the upper body and legs, Der Westen reports.

The migrant, who was visibly intoxicated, also tried stealing one girl's mobile phone and was told to leave the fair by security.

'Authorities act in accordance with the law': Israel's 'war on children' leaves hundreds of Palestinian youngsters imprisoned

Ahed Tamimi has become a poster child for Palestinian resistance against Israeli occupation. But what of the hundreds of other minors currently incarcerated by the Israeli state? And what of the children killed by IDF bullets?

Tamimi, who is facing 10 years in jail after slapping an Israeli soldier in December 2017, will be in court this month but Tamimi's case is far from an isolated one. According to B'Tselem (the Israeli Information Center for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories), at the end of 2017 there were 352 Palestinian minors being held in Israeli prisons.

This trend has risen dramatically since 2014. In December of that year there were 156 child prisoners, by the end of 2015 this figure had jumped to 450 before being reduced by 98 at the end of 2017.

To learn more about these arrests, and the manner in which they are carried out, RT spoke to Palestinian photojournalist Mohammad Al-Azza. Al-Azza lives and works in the Aida refugee camp located about 2km north of Bethlehem. He documents the almost daily incursions into the camp by IDF soldiers, who routinely fire tear gas and rubber bullets, which are essentially live rounds encased in hard plastic, at children and adults there.

A statement on Sunday's operation was released by the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB), although it gave few details.

The members of the terrorist cell were shot dead as they opened fire at security forces, who tried to stop their car. Guns, a hand grenade and a homemade 3kg TNT explosive device were found at the scene, according to the FSB.

Epic trolling! Radio Liberty poll on Stalinist purges ends in hilarious response from the Russian people

After Radio Liberty asked Russians to recall the fate of their families in times of repression, the thread was flooded with mocking tweets about "grandparents who died childless after 20 years of executions."

In the early hours of Monday, on the 65th anniversary of Joseph Stalin's death, the Russian branch of Radio Liberty posted a tweet reading: "How did your family survive the times of Stalin's repressions? Tell us in comments." The comments started to flow in by the hundreds, and by Tuesday afternoon there were over 1,700 of them - but many were not exactly the type expected by the initiators of the scheme.

Comment: Good on Russian citizens for seeing through the blatant propaganda attempts by US-backed Radio Liberty - and with a great sense of humor, at that.

New Maryland law will force homeschoolers to submit to warrantless home 'inspections,' be subject to state dictates

homeschoolers
Under the guise of preventing child abuse, lawmakers in Maryland have introduced a bill that will allow the state to intrude in the lives of innocent families, keeping tabs on them, and destroying their right to privacy.

The bill, HB 1798 - County Boards of Education - Home Instruction Program - Observation of Instruction and Reporting of Abuse and Neglect, lays out some fairly ominous requirements that will persecute otherwise entirely innocent families for doing nothing other than teaching their children at home.

According to the bill's text, it will establish grounds for parents to essentially register with the state and be subject to some of the same constraints as the public education system. But that is only the beginning. This bill also lays out the framework for involuntary home inspections in which state agents will enter a family's home multiple times a year - likely unannounced - and observe and inspect the homeschooling process.

Finally! Gender-neutral Mother's Day cards are a go

Waitrose said the move was aimed at ‘broadening out who the cards can go to’
Waitrose is selling gender-neutral Mother's Day cards as retailers reduce their use of the M-word to make today's celebration more "transgender inclusive".

The supermarket chain is selling a "Happy You Day" card in its Mother's Day range in which the word "mother" does not appear.

Comment: Clearly, the world won't be right until transgenders are included in every aspect of society, including all the benign Hallmark holidays.
