Heavy rainfall, a strange skyline and a waterspout over the ocean are just some of the weather phenomena witnessed across Western Australia's Pilbara region over the past 24 hours.

The stormy weather has delighted many locals who watched on in awe.

Dampier resident Eloise Dortch was out walking her dog on Monday morning when something caught her eye off the coast.

"I didn't know what I was looking at," Ms Dortch said.

"I saw this weird, dark trail going from the rain clouds down into ocean.

"It was there for quite a few seconds, and at the base where the spout went into the ocean you could see a flurry of water spray."

The Kilauea volcano in Hawaii has resumed its eruption, marking the fourth eruptive episode. Lava fountains have been observed reaching heights of up to 200 feet. The renewed activity has drawn attention from both locals and tourists, eager to witness the natural spectacle.

Kilauea, one of the most active volcanoes in the world, is located on the Big Island of Hawaii. It has been erupting intermittently for decades, with its most recent significant activity occurring in 2018. The current eruption is being closely monitored by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) and local authorities to ensure public safety.

The lava flows are primarily contained within the volcano's summit caldera, minimizing the immediate threat to nearby communities. However, residents and visitors are advised to stay informed and heed any warnings or advisories issued by officials.

The eruption has also sparked interest among scientists, who are studying the volcanic activity to better understand the processes driving Kilauea's eruptions. This research could provide valuable insights into volcanic behavior and improve future eruption predictions.

As the situation develops, authorities will continue to monitor the eruption and provide updates to ensure the safety of those on the island.

Indonesia evacuates 3,000 residents near Mount Ibu after eruption

BBBBBBB
Authorities have begun evacuating 3,000 residents near the Mount Ibu volcano on Indonesia's eastern island of Halmahera, the disaster agency said on Thursday (January 16), after an eruption this week sent a cloud of thick grey ash as high as four-km (2.5-mile) into the sky.

Ibu erupted on Wednesday (January 15) morning for about two minutes, Indonesia's volcanology agency said, forcing authorities to raise the alert level in the surrounding areas to the most severe.

The evacuations started late on Wednesday for about 3,000 residents around the area who were being prioritized due to their proximity to the volcano, Abdul Muhari, a spokesperson for the country's disaster mitigation agency, told Reuters.

Ibu's activities follow a series of eruptions of different volcanoes in Indonesia, which sits on the Pacific "Ring of Fire" and has 127 active volcanoes.

Woman killed, man injured in dog attack in north St. Louis, Missouri

MMMMMMMM
A woman was left dead and a man was injured Wednesday night after being attacked by several dogs in north St. Louis.

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department (SLMPD), the incident occurred around 11:40 p.m. Wednesday night on the 5900 block of Theodore Avenue in the Walnut Park West neighborhood of north St. Louis, involving a husband and wife.

SLMPD spokesperson Mitch McCoy says officers were initially called to the scene for reports of shots fired but as authorities were in route, the call was updated to a call for help and that a woman was being attacked by multiple dogs in their backyard.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found the couple being bit by the dogs and the husband attempting to save his wife from the attack.

Police say officers used pepper spray on the dogs to stop them from attacking and immediately provided aid to the woman by applying tourniquets due to multiple severe bites. The woman was transported to a nearby hospital but was later pronounced dead, McCoy says. The man involved in the attacks suffered from non-life-threatening injuries.

According to McCoy, three dogs were seized at the scene. The investigation is still ongoing.

SOTT Focus: SOTT Earth Changes Summary - December 2024: Extreme Weather, Planetary Upheaval, Meteor Fireballs

ecs1224
December closed a year of significant extreme weather events, with an interesting increase since the Solar Cycle 25 peak officially started in October.

To this point, Solar Cycle 25 with its 191.44 confirmed sunspots will break recent records of activity, even the one of 1954-1958 Solar Cycle 19 with 285 sunspots.

Interestingly enough, Solar Cycle 24, was one of the weakest solar cycles in the last century, with a peak sunspot number of 116.4. This is an unusual activity difference and has sparked interest and research within the scientific community. Some hypotheses suggest that this could be part of a longer-term solar cycle variation or an extended solar minimum with a few peaks before a stark decrease.

A man has been killed as severe thunderstorms smashed large regions of NSW and Sydney, bringing the airport, public transport and sporting matches to an abrupt halt.

An unstable air mass combined with an upper trough produced wild weather across large parts of the state late Wednesday, leaving behind a trail of destruction in its wake.

Damaging winds, large hailstones and heavy rainfall smashed not only Sydney but also the Hunter, the Mid North Coast, Illawarra, Central Tablelands, North West Slopes and Plains and Northern Tablelands districts.

Wind gusts exceeding 100km/h were reported at Sydney Airport, Kurnell, Scone, Murrurindi Gap, Tamworth, Merriwa, Dubbo, Mullion, Bombala, Trangie, Cowra, Walgett, Cabrumurra and Wagga Wagga.

The worst of the weather isn't over yet with severe thunderstorms and heavy rain forecast in some regions on Thursday.

More than 200,000 homes across Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong were without power late Wednesday night due to lightning strikes with energy providers scrambling to restore electricity services.

The NSW SES was inundated with more than 1,240 calls for help with more than a third of the requests in Sydney for fallen trees, leaks, and roofs blown off buildings.

Earlier on Wednesday afternoon, a man aged in his 80s was killed after a tree struck his car while driving in 107km/h winds in Cowra in central-west NSW.

The avalanche happened on the peak of Punta Valgrande, a popular mountain in the Swiss Alps among experienced hikers and skiers, near the border of Italy and Switzerland.

Rescuers said the victims were dragged several hundred feet by the snow.

Medical teams arrived by helicopter and were able to rescue two skiers, but three others were found dead on the scene.
